In this sonic-boom space age. this age of population explosion, this period of history when man has de- veloped scientific devices capable of destroying millions—the welfare of mankind is dependent upon an en- lightened citizenry. It has been the intent of the faculty and administration to provide the best education pos- sible in order that each and every student at Ellendale State Teachers College may have the intellectual back- ground necessary to combat the forces which might be dangerous to the perpetuation of American democracy. Unquestionably, the generation of man's intellectual energy is our greatest safeguard. 1 should like to take this opportunity to express my best wishes to all students and especially to those who will be alumni at the end of the current school year.
