6414 qaoulfq In our school, although we have various courses of study, there is but one purpose, the better education of the boys and girls in preparing for the future 1' Our faculty is divided into separate departments, but all are working together in har- mony toward this one objective of better education. Science and Mathematics The science department helps pupils to understand the basic concepts and principles of natural phenomena, and the mathematics department helps the students to interpret and understand the mathematical situations they shall meet in their high school subjects and problems in future life. Science: Miss Geraldine Shontz, Mr. Russell McDougal, and Mr. Marvin Bell. Mathematics: Miss Katherine Kennedy, Miss Flora Smith, and Mr. Orvel Strong. Commerce and Social Studies The commerce department offers to the students a business education, and the social studies department helps the student to develop his education to understand the political, economic, and social institutions of the world. Commerce: Miss Ruth Temple and Mr. Herman Truelove. Social Studies: Miss Florise Hunsucker, Miss Merribah Clark, and Mr. Paul Headdy. Music and Art The music and art departments provide opportunities through an expanded vocal and listening program, voice and theory, and instrumental activities, and teach culture that is interwoven with the life of all people. Music: Mrs. Hazel Kelso and Mr. Ralph Miller. Art: Mrs. Peggy Cobb and Miss Wenonah Goshorn, supervising teacher. English, Library, and Language Departments The main purposes of these departments are to teach the student to think, to read, to write, to speak, to listen: to give the student an opportunity to use many books as sources of information and pleasure, to learn the culture and art of foreign languages. English: Miss Margaret Gillum, Mrs. May Phillips, Mrs. Lucia Bolt, and Miss Frances Williams. Librarian: Miss Lucile Viehe. Spanish: Mrs. Faith Kelly. Latin: Miss Gertrude Ewing. Home Economics and Industrial Arts The home economics department teaches the girls the main points of satisfactory home living, and the industrial arts department teaches the boys to work with industrial and mechanical tools. Home Economics: Mrs. Caroline Kelso and Mrs. Lois Oskins. Industrial Arts: Mr. Marvin Bell and Mr. Ralph Rogers. Physical Education Participation in classwork and other activities help the student to develop his body and imp:ove his physical skills, to coordinate his nerves and muscles, and to learn activities fcr recreation and pleasure.
