One of the men who has made this achievement possible is Dr. Stephen Poort. Since the first days of this institution Dr. Poort has been ready to act-with ideas, plans, and wholehearted faith in the abilities of every- one connected with SFCC. With sincere regard to the problems of each individual, Dr. Poort has helped to establish a tradition at SFCC-a tradition of respect and rap- port between members of the staff and the stu- dent body. It is with the deepest regret that we see Dr. Poort leave our college, but his efforts and successes will not have been in vain. 41 A Lovely Visitor From ronoe Many ot us will remember 1971 as the year we met a darling young lady from France. Frangoise La- vole enabled us to recall many pleasant moments ,ot her presence. Traveling to the Etats-Unis as they are known in her native language, she got to live in this area as did her brother, lean-Louis, as an AFS exchange student in l969. Frangoise was well versed in the English language, having studied it for several years. While here she attended sports events and dances with enthusiasm. Having an op- portunity to spend the spring se- mester in Kansas City, we were happy for her but sorry to see her leave. The memory of her pleasant glow will burn for a long time. Taken one September morning Fran oise was caught by the Exhlbzfor photographer chatting with some students in the union The small paperback in her hand is an Eng- lish-Yrench dictionary she soon learned how to do without. 131
