varsity basketball 1975-76 our varsity basketball team finished in a tie for second place in the niagara-orleans league this season with a league record of 8 wins and 4 losses, and an over-all record of 13 wins and 7 defeats. we also finished second in the sweethome tournament, losing a tight 66-61 decision to a strong neumann team. the team participated in the section 6 playoffs for the eighth straight year and advanced to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual champion, emerson vocational, from buffalo. our most outstanding game was the quarter-final sectional game against alden. they won their league with a 16-2 record and was highly regarded. our boys put everything together and after building up a 32-16 halftime lead coasted to a 62-53 win. the team was led by senior paul britten, who averaged 16.7 points and 10 rebounds per gameg bill mckeown, who averaged 12.6 points and 4 steals per combat and russ davis, who averages 9 points per game. junior starters werejon holden, 10 points per game and brian graham. 9 points per game. other members of the team were seniors mike hens, mike kramer and roland johnson, and juniors, bob honadle and joel taylor. paul became the sixth leading scorer C660 pointsj and fourth leading rebounder C4935 in our schools history and bill set a season record C831 and a career record C1495 in steals. both of the boys were named to the niagara-orleans all league first team. paul also was honored by being named to the niagara falls gazette all area team for the second year. jon, brian, and russ received all-league mention with four great juniors returning and some very promising sophomores coming up, the prospects for next year look very good.
