C Stowell, T. Sherwood, J. Rutherford, M. Keller, M. Schultz, B. Bush, R. Brown, D. Sherwood, D. Terrano A Hurst B. Vesper, P. Ernest, C. Raming. Center: B. Sisley, Mgr., Coach Baum. The 1965-66 Spartan Basketball team was the first basketball team in the school's history to gain a sectional play-off berth. By finishing the season with a 9-5 record, and in third place, the Spartans gained the bid. In the play-off we lost a hard-fought battle to our.ECIC League foe Alden. The season was one marked by triumphs and disappointments. After beating league-leading Wilson, the Spartans had the chance of gaining the league cham- pionship with two games remainingg however, defeat eliminated the possibility. On the bright side, the team established a new season total for points-1167. As for individuals, Bill Vesper established the following school records: Career Field Goal Percentage 8372 on five of six shots, John Rutherford actually estab- lished the season Field Goal Percentage with 4921. However, this was on fewer shots than Vesper. Tim Sherwood set the following school marks: Free Throw Percentage in one game seven of seven for 10076 and the 'season Free Throw Per- centage record with twenty-one of twenty-five for 8071. Much progress was made this year with our six seniors: Al Hurst, Dan Ter- rano, Bill Vesper, Tim Sherwood, john Rutherford, and Greg Seal. They will be greatly missed. Coach Baum used the bench strength, provided by capable juniors, effectively. With the return of many experienced players hopes are high for next year. 63
