For the students he has provided leadership and guidance. He has used his authority, but only in our best interests. It is with extreme pride and gratitude that we dedicate the '66 Starpointer to Mr. Keech. Cooperation with the Sophomore Class in sponsoring a dance, estab- lished the class socially. As sophomores we went to work establishing our place athletically. Our Junior Varsity basket- ball team won first place in the League and we did well in other sports. Three dances were spon- sored: Fa1l Frolic, 'Roman Holiday' Cremem- bered for its beautiful fountain, not because of what it looked like, but because of all the work it took to get what we ended up withj and Surfin' Time. The latter dance brought the year to a close. During our junior year we kept busy trying to raise money to support our activities. We spon- sored a bake sale and dances. The first dance of the year was 'Getting to Know You. Its purpose was to introduce newcomers to Starpoint and hon- Miss Mary Ann Mr. Steven Olick Scirto or our football and cross country teams. We also sponsored the Question Mark , and Green, Green. Many juniors helped make the Junior-Senior Prom a success. Linda Fleming and Larry Peters were crowned Princess and Prince. The year ended with the annual Senior banquet for the Class of 1965. Our senior year began quickly with the dance 'Meet the Spartans. It attracted many Spartans. The football team came within four seconds of the championship, while our cross country team won the sectional championship. The Christmas Dance 'Mistletoe and Holly 65 proved to be a success. The Senior Prom, Senior banquet, and finally graduation brought to an end our history as the Class of 1966. They were good years and will be long remembered. It's practically un- changed in appearance since 1966 when our Class graduated. The only changes are that the people who were accustomed to wander the halls, now patrol them. John Rutherford, always in command of the situation, is now the Superintendent of Schools, while Al Lindemuth is Secondary Principal and Dennis Kroll, Elemen- tary Principal. john Jenks is his assistant. We can find Linda Breitenbach teaching Latin students their verbs. Other teachers are: Sue Damerell CSocial Studiesl, Alice McNamara CFrenchJ, Sue Weller CMathD, Nancy Majchrzak CNurseJ, and Kathy Menard CPhysical Educationj. Tom Kreppenneck is the slowest Physical Education teacher ever to bounce a ball. Pat Altemus, always a hard worker, is secretary for the Superintendent. Karen Tokarchick, Marilyn jones, Helene Krzywda, Belle Grobe, and Carol Fiegel are secretaries in the Guidance office of Fred Haugh, Joanne LaPort, and Larry Duscher. The Attendance Officer is Ralph Flack. In the high school office we have other members of the Class of '66: Mary Barraclough, Ann jasinski, Linda McClellan, Diane Beechy, and Kathy Moore-all secretaries. Eileen Ostrowski, Susan Wall, Gloria Winter, Donna Smith, and Janice Janiec are also secretaries in the school. In the Health Office Anita Deuser, Pam Davis, Rachel Pollow, and Mary Heim are curing all of the 'sick' people. The 'uncureables' are sent to school phychi- atrists, Andy Dierken and Dave Stein. The faces of some of the children in the halls look familiar. They look like the children of Robin Wisniewski and Ken Mayer, Dave Downey and Kathy Noonan, Cheryl Krull, and Ann Barcer and Bill Haylett. Any school must be kept clean and Ken Gottstein, jack McCloskey, Wade Bechtel and Robert Hoffman are members of the very important staff that performs this task. Keith Stebbins, head custodian, seems to have found his real place in life. Some of our seniors: Roger Laport, Wayne Perry, Paul Cieluzak, and joe Cap- itumino, got so misty-eyed over the thought of leaving Starpoint that they decided to stay, and are still wandering the halls. Head of the cafeteria staff is Dave Ollenbittle, the famous cook. He is es- pecially famous for his cherry pies. He is assisted by his staff: Ellen Schroeder, Barbara Haylett, Nancy Hendley, Roberta Kenyon, and Marie Koller. The milk for the cafeteria is delivered from the farms of Alan Flack, Dan Krezemien, and Dan Fiegel. Norma Bennett, Dick Goodman, Herbert Hales, and Stephen Heaton drive the buses. We'll now turn the time ahead to early evening. Everyone is there to see the Pendleton Pigskins, that famous football team, play basketball against the faculty with a wrestling exhibit during half time. It seems some of our athletes, Al Hurst, Bill Vesper, Dick Voelker, John Hey, Tim Sherwood, and joe Monkelbaan, couldn't 34 decide what sport to specialize in, so they play football in season and do exhibi- tions in the off season. Chris Barry is their coach. The referee is Pat Cecula, who began her career in the Officials Club at S.C.S. Scorekeeper, Dave Wescott, argues with the referee after every score. The team's cheerleaders are: Joyce Cioch, Sandy Reynolds, Linda Fleming, and Diane Schmelzle. They just couldn't give it up upon graduation, so they still cheer at all the games. Present at the games are some famous members of the Class of '66. Kathy Lenhart, who it is rumored will be the first woman to be nominated for the presi- dency, is now a senator from New York. Greg Seal, an assemblyman in Albany, is famous for holding up all the bills by arguing over them Cas usualj. just returned after ten years of missionary work in darkest Africa are Karen Gabri and Carol Calvert. Also there are the famous artists who made their start drawing pictures for the Startimes and in art: jim Ellis, Anne Hayes, Jim Powley, and Charles Dietz. Miss America and Miss U.S.A. of 1970, Betty Setlock and Sue White, wait until the last minute to make their entrance. The cinema world is represented by Bob Swindler, Sharon Beichner, janet Ellis, Margie johns, and Linda Stanely. The famous dance band, the 'Stars' is headed by that great trumpeter, Dan Terrano, accompanied by Joel Wendt, Tom McGarry, Larry Peters, and Barb Haylett. Singers for this band are Linda Brown, Lyn Labiak, julie Simmons, and Marilee Santerella. Up from Cape Kennedy are scientists, Dick Smith, jim Wyant, and Sally Ger- wig. With them is their manager, Bill McClurg and press agent Bob Sherwood. With them are some of the space pilots for the trip to Mars: Laverne Bowen, Paul Trud- nowski, and Terry Spencer. Barbara Moore, Elizabeth Blackwell, and Kathy Cole- man are the space ship hostesses. As Dan Flore walks by, a noticeable squeek comes from his shoes. Racers Ricky Miller, john Barcer, and Richard Gabrys arrive in the parking lot neck and neck with jeff Collins, Bob Peterson, and Wayne Fronczak. They seem to be mad over being almost beat by amateurs , just before the game starts, Sharon Murawski, who made her first million in stocks after getting tips from her boss, drives up in her fire-red Rolls Royce. She always was the shy type, never showing off. She is accompanied by her private secretaries, Pat McEwen, Corrine Zess, and Lynette Barraclough, and stock con- sultant, Linda Moxham. Her former boss, Gary Freeman, is now her chauffeur. The very last ones to arrive, as always, are Barb Meisenburg, Georgia Bick- ford, and Clip Class. He used to be one of the fastest in the class, but he has a tendency to fall asleep. The game was played hard, but the faculty lost by a score of 100-10. Dave Kalota, Dennis Manning, Korry Kasperzak and Chris Donner rush madly onto the floor to cheer the victors. As the lights dim after a day at Starpoint, the members of the Class of '66 canbe seen slowly drifting homeward. 35 S OU-INS w lb ll! Ma. 50111 Tfeas-, missing: P. Hagan, Vice-Pres. The junior Class successfully opened its Octo- ber activities with an imaginative dance called C'est la Vie . Its setting was Paris with the Arch of Triumph and the Eiffel Tower cleverly designed by the class to set the mood for the occasion. The rest of the school year was busily spent planning skit day, a dance, the Senior Banquet, and the junior-Senior Prom. The Class of '67 assumed many responsibilities and successfully fulfilled them. The Class antici- pates new achievements during the school year 1966- 67. The varsity team extended its win streak to 60 meets, while winning their fifth straight Niagara-Orleans League title, and their third straight Sec- tion VI Class A Championship. The only dark spot of the season was the narrow defeat by Class B school, Silver Creek, in the Class A B C finals at Elma Meadows. This kept the team from participating in the Intersec- tionals at Bear Mountain State Park. Ken Mayer and Clip Class did an outstanding job for the Spartans, finish- ing one and two in every League race and All League race. In the sectionals Mayer finished first and Class sixthg and in the Intersectionals Mayer finished Sth and Class 64th. During the season Mayer set records of 10:47 for 2.1 miles at Roy-Hart and 10:40 for 2.1 miles at Barker. LEAGUE lst PLACE SECTIONALS lst PLACE CLASS A B C 2nd PLACE A Picture of Victory and Defeat Special tribute goes to the B squad which has never been beaten. It extended its win streak to 29. The 1965-66 Spartan Basketball team was the first basketball team in the school's history to gain a sectional play-off berth. By finishing the season with a 9-5 record, and in third place, the Spartans gained the bid. In the play-off we lost a hard-fought battle to our.ECIC League foe Alden. The season was one marked by triumphs and disappointments. After beating league-leading Wilson, the Spartans had the chance of gaining the league cham- pionship with two games remainingg however, defeat eliminated the possibility. On the bright side, the team established a new season total for points-1167. As for individuals, Bill Vesper established the following school records: Career Field Goal Percentage 8372 on five of six shots, John Rutherford actually estab- lished the season Field Goal Percentage with 4921. However, this was on fewer shots than Vesper. Tim Sherwood set the following school marks: Free Throw Percentage in one game seven of seven for 10076 and the 'season Free Throw Per- centage record with twenty-one of twenty-five for 8071. Much progress was made this year with our six seniors: Al Hurst, Dan Ter- rano, Bill Vesper, Tim Sherwood, john Rutherford, and Greg Seal. They will be greatly missed. Coach Baum used the bench strength, provided by capable juniors, effectively. With the return of many experienced players hopes are high for next year. 63 OUR SENIQRS 64 Row one: J. Beaser, Z. While in the process of outscoring the opposition 638 points to 112 and pinning 121 out of 168 opponents, the team won first place in the Niagara-Orleans Wrestling League. Jim Ellis, John Hey, Bob Manning, Tim Allen, and Phil Hurst were undefeated while Mark Case, Pat Ha- gan, Don Scales, Joe Monkelbaan, Harold Shenk, and Dan Yendes suffered only a single loss. Besides the regular competition, Starpoint was invited to the Maryvale Tournament to wres- tle against Maryvale, Tonawanda, and Orchard Park. Although Starpoint was by far the smallest school competing, our balanced team took the championship and one first place, with Jim Ellis winning the 115 lb. trophy. At the N.Y.S. Section VI Class A Wrestling Sectionals, the Spartans showed tremendous bal- ance by gaining 2 thirds, 4 seconds, and 2 firsts to tie for first place. Phil Hurst and Dan Yendes came in third. Mark Case, Don Scales, Bob Man- ning and Joe Monkelbaan secured second. The two first place winners were the co-captains, John Hey and Jim Ellis. John Hey and Jim Ellis went to the Western New York wrestle-offs. Both ended their four year high school wrestling careers by placing second in all of Western New York in their re- spective weight classes. This undefeated wrestling squad was led by Mr. David Sylves. Under his guidance the Spar- tans grew into a powerful, balanced team and re- corded the best season of wrestling. f , ffl' f F A 7- 35 32,1 I ffl. SECOND HALF COMEBACK VARSITY SCORES After a slow start, the 1965 Varsity baseball team came back with three victories in their last four games, losing only a no-hitter to Wilson during the victory stretch. The predominately junior ladened team started six juniors at key positions, while two seniors, Jerry Walck and jack Leaver held outfield positions, and sophomore Mike Keller played first base. A tremendous nucleus will be back for the 1966 season. Returning are seniors Al Hurst, catcher and Tim Sherwood, pitcher, Tom Kreppenneck, second, John Rutherford, shortstop, Greg Seal, third, and Al Lindemuth, outfield. Mike Keller will return at first base. J.V. This year's Varsity Club prospered greatly under the leader- ship of the newly elected officers who were: Clip Class, President: Joe Monkelbaan, Vice Presidentg Harry Shenk, Secretary, and Jim Ellis, Treasurer. The Varsity Club ran the concessions during the fall and win- ter sports seasons. The Club also sponsored 'sock hops' after most Friday night home basketball games. Members helped out on the buses going to games at other schools by assisting the chap- erones. In December, the annual 'Homecoming Dance' was held in the gym. All the alumni were invited to get together and spend the evening dancing and talking about old times. This successful year was climaxed by the 7th annual Sports Banquet. Here, the Spartan athletes dined, received awards, and pensively listened to a well-known guest speaker. 82 1 OFFICIALS CLUB E. Schroeder, L. Hess, B. Greenaway, D. Schmelzle, M. Gabri, L.
