GLENN MULLINS NICKIE STRATAS Guard Guard STARKVILLE 14-GRENADA 7 ln the inaugural game for our new stadium the Yellow- jackets, captained by Anthony and Mosley, slipped and slid to a lil to 7 victory over the Grenada Bulldogs. Grenada took a 7 to U lead in the first guarter after a blocked punt on our Z9 yard line set up the score. Chatram scored the TD. with Hendricks hitting the line for the extra point. With less than three minutes to go before halftime, Timmy Parker, fleet tail- back, reeled off a beautiful 64 yard run behind good blocking for a score, and by far the best run of the game. The fackets came back strong in the second half, making long drives but had a hard time scoring. Late in the third guarter the fackets took the lead of 8 to 7 when a Grenada back tried to punt from behind his own goal and was tackled by Shropshire and McReynolds. On the following kickoff from the 20 yard line, the fackets drove to the Bulldog one but failed to hit pay dirt. The ball changed hands with Hendricks attempting to punt on the first down. Stratas blocked the kick with losey falling on the ball for a touchdown. Due to Grenada's weak offense which registered only two first downs in the ball Game, our entire second string saw action during the last half of the fourth guarter, STARKVILLE 12-WEST POINT 7 Paced by sensational runs by Mosley and Parker, the Yel- lowjackets took a close one from the West Point Green Wave, l2A7. Starkville won the toss and elected to receive. Caales kick was downed on the Starkville 25 and the Yellowjackets went right to work by making a first down. On the next play Starkville was penalized and Anthony punted out of bounds on the West Point 30. After failing to make enough yardage for a first down, Pennebaker went back to punt but his kick was blocked by McReynolds who fell on the ball on the Green Wave 22. After a couple of plays, Parker took the ball over for the score, The try from placement for the extra point was wide. Williford kicked to Elliott who returned to his 30 yard line. After a couple of downs, one of West Point's men got in the open and caught a pass for a touchdown. Cagle con' verted for the extra point. Starkville was very lucky when the Green Wave had their second touchdown called back. Gne of their linemen was off sides on the play, Starkville's second touchdown came early in the fourth guarter. Begin' ning on their own 20 where Wofford took one of Burney's punts, the lackets went down the field without relinquishing the ball and Mosley scored from the 9. The attempt for the extra point was a running play but failed to make the neces- sary yardage. The Green Waves say we were just lucky, but in that case, we have been lucky for l3 consecutive years.
