Nulick Jr. was bom in Boston, Massachusetts on April 9, 1945. After graduating Hyde Park High School he enlisted in the Navy in July 1963 and attended basic training and Electricians Mate A School at Great Lakes, Illinois. His initial assignment was to the USS NEOSHO CAO-1431 where he served until July 1967. In July 1967 Senior Chief Nulick returned to the civilian sector. During the next thirteen years he was employed by the Boston Naval Shipyard, attended Northeastern University lgttll earned a Business Administration Degree from Newbury 0 ege. Returning to active duty June 1980, he completed NAVET onentation in Orlando, Florida. In August 1980, as a First Class Electrician's Mate, he reported aboard USS LEXING- TON IAVT-163, homeported in Pensacola, Florida, as Lead- 'US Electrician for power distribution. ElFf0P1.A11gi1st 1982 until July 1984 he served as the Senior Nmflclall aboard USS EDSON QDD-9465, homeported in CEHYPOU, Rhode Island. While there, he made a Great Lakes Sesefmd Qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. Fmumor Chief Nulick's next assignment was aboard the USS TON QAS-Ill, homeported in New London, Connect- icut. During his four and a half year tour as Ship Super- intendent of Nuclear Submarines he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and subsequently Senior Chief Petty Officer. In November 1988 after completing Instructor Training, Senior Chief Nulick was appointed Drug and Alcohol Pro- gram Advisor for Naval Submarine School, Groton, Con- necticut. Returning to sea duty in January 1991, he reported aboard USS ELMER MONTGOMERY CFP-10821, homeported in Mayport, Florida. During his assignment as 3M Coordinator, the Knox class frigate was decommissioned June 1992. Soon after reporting to USS STARK QFFG-311 at Mayport, Florida, as the Snap II Systems Coordinator, he was selected as Command Senior Chief and deployed on UNITAS 34-93. Senior Chief Nulick's awards include the Navy Achieve- ment Medal Ctwo awardsj, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal Cthree awardsj, Na- tional Defense Service Medal ftwo awardsj, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Rib- bon ftwo awardsj. Senior Chief Nulick is married to the former Elizabeth Carey of Roslindale, Massachusetts. They have three chil- dren: Kelly, Richard III and Alexandra. Command Senior Chief 9

THE VOYAGE. . . UNITAS is a Spanish word translated to mean united So is named the four and a half month deployment to over eight South American countries requiring complete cir- cumnavigation of the continent. Begun in 1959, the cruise originated as a relations- building campaign involving a small number of Navy surface warships. Since it has evolved into a large complex training exercise to include nine phases of operations combining all assets of various South American navies. Each phase consists of anti- surface, air and submarine exercises amid the myriad of other less significan yet tasking drills and operations. A pleasure cruise this was not, and it shall be remember for what it Was. However, let the few pictures and memoirs in the following pages help you recall the fun and comradery experienced by all during UNITAS 34, aboard USS STARK CFFG-311. Foreward 1 1
