O MANDI GOFFICER z if na COMM NDER PETER WY KOOP UNITED STATES N VY Commander Wynkoop is a native of Long Beach, Ca- lifornia. Enlisting in the Navy in 1965. he served in Hawaii, Vietnam and England. In 1970 he enrolled in the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education Program at the University of Colorado, where he received his commission in 1973. His initial assignment was to USS BRONSTEIN QFF-10377. where he served as Combat Information Center Officer. mak- ing deployments to the Westem Pacific and Indian Oceans. In 1976 CDR Wynkoop reported to USS CHOWANOC CATF- l00J as Executive Officer. where he made a deployment to the Western Pacific and the Trust Territories. ln 1977 CDR Wynkoop attended the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey CA., where he studied National Security Affairs. In 1979 he was assigned as Operations Officer, USS JONAS INGRAM QDD-9383, and completed a deployment to the Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and Northern Europe. In 1981. he was assigned as Executive Officer of Shore Inter- mediate Maintenance Activity, Mayport, Florida. In 1982 CDR Wynkoop joined the Staff of Destroyer Squadron 24 as Operations Officer, and made deployments to the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean and South America, and participated in operations in Grenada. In 1984 he was as- signed as Executive Officer, USS GALLERY CFFG-261, and made a deployment to the Middle East Force. In 1986 CDR Wynkoop assumed command of USS EX- ULTANT KMSO-4413. Participating in the first Atlantic Fleet MSO crew rotation. he deployed with his crew in January 1988 to USS ILLUSIVE CMSO-4483, where his GOLD C REW hunted. detected and destroyed enemy mines in the Northern and Central Persian Gulf, earning the Battle E and the Fleet Mine Warfare award. In May 1988 CDR Wynkoop and his crew retumed to Mayport, Florida, where he took command of USS ENGAGE IMSO-4331. In October 1988 CDR Wynkoop reported to the staff of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Naval Forces, Europe in London UK, where he served until 1991 as the Fleet Command Center Operations Officer. CDR Wynkoop's awards include the Bronze Star with com- bat V , Meritorious Service Medal with gold star and Navy Commendation medal. CDR Wynkoop is married to the former Frances Wrenn of Jacksonville, Florida. They have three children, Richard, Andrew and Susan. Commanding Officer 7
