Page4 CHIPPEWAN 1939 Senior Class Histor In the fall of 1935, forty-seven boys and girls re- sponded to the call of knowledge by entering Starbuck High School as Freshmen. As the doors were thrown open on that memorable day Manda Aaberg, John An- derson, Earl Anondson, Henrik Aune, Eldora Berg, Esther Berg, Alice Braaten, Elvin Branch, Arlane Brandvold, Arvid Bredeson, Evelyn Bredeson, Anna Marie Brevig, Edward Byhre, Pearl Eidberg, Marie Engebretson, Pearl Erickson, Alfield Forbord, Orvald Forbord, Adeline Gaarder, Arvid Gorder, Clarice Gor- der, Norman Hagen, Viola Hagestuen, Kermit Hanson, Pearl Hofstad, Paul Johnshoy, Marion Landaas, Mar- tha Larson, Blanche Lingen, Palvin Lokken, Lester Lorvig, Ralph Norland, Julia Ranum, Mildred Ronnie, Lester Sanvik, Viola Sanvik, Ralph Skinner, Gladys Smedstad, Thomas Stoen, Juliet Sylvester, Helen Thompson, Andrew Thorstad, and Claire Pearl Tol- stad entered and became classmates for the year. At our first class meeting the following officers were elected: Henrik Aune, president, Pearl Eidberg, vice president, Lester Sanvik, secretary, Clarice Gorder, treasurer, Miss Lilian Charlesworth, class advisor. In October the Sophomores gave a party in our honor. To show our appreciation we gave them a re- turn party at a later date. After nine months of work and three months of va- cation, the Bells of Knowledge summoned us once more, this time as sophomores. This year Bertha Wollan, David Wollan, Luverne Hanson, and Howard Noyes joined our ranks. Milford Johnson joined our class but dropped out during the winter months. Dur- ing the year our number was lessened as Alice Braaten, Arvid Gorder, Juliet Sylvester and Howard Noyes left school. Arvid Bredeson, Anna Marie Brevig and Irene Peterson moved from Starbuck. The first class meet- ing was held and Alfield Forbord was elected presi- dent, Paul Johnshoy, vice president, Pearl Eidberg, secretary, Lester Sanvik, treasurer, Fergus Nygaard, class advisor. After school had started we gave a party in honor of the in-coming Freshmen. Our Sophomore year was a success under the leadership of Mr. Nygaard. As we entered our Junior year we began to feel our responsibilities as we were now upper classmen. At our class meeting the following officers were elected: Andrew Thorstad, president, Paul Johnshoy, vice presi- dent, Mildred Ronnie, secretary, Boyd Opheim, treas- urer, Miss Mae Schendel, class advisor. On November 19, we gave our class play, Just Country Folks, un- der the able direction of Mr. Joseph Lunstad, which proved a success in every way. In the spring we gave the customary Junior-Senior banquet, carried out in Japanese theme. The success of our banquet was in a large measure due to the guidance of our class advisor, Miss Schendel, At last we are Seniors and are on the doorstep of the goal that we set out for on that memorable day four years ago. Our ranks were depleted as Kermit Hanson and Ralph Skinner left. At the beginning of the year we elected the following officers: Pearl Eid- berg, president, Archie Otteson, vice president, Paul Johnshoy, secretary, Thomas Stoen, treasurer, Supt. W. A. Peterson, class advisor. This year our girls' basket- ball team was victorious in the class tournaments. Our class play, Ted Drops In, under the direction of Miss Lilian Charlesworth was well received. We were de- lightfully entertained by the Juniors at the Junior- Senior banquet. We are now about to enter the school of life and may we be guided by our motto, Today Decides To- morrow. But as we start a new year in the world we shall strive after the perfection we hope to attain in the fullness of time. -Pearl Erickson. Senior Class Will We, the Class of 1939 of the Starbuck High School, being of sound and disposing mind and memory and realizing that we must part with sundry honors, tal- ents, looks and emotions, do hereby pronounce this our last Will and Testament. We hereby bequeath to our Superintendent our al'- fections and respect for his careful guidance for years over the storm-tossed sea. 'To the faculty we do hereby bequeath the fond memories of our brilliant class and wish to express our most tender and sincere sympathy for the loss they are about to experience. We give, devise and bequeath to our successors, the Juniors, our seats in the assembly on condition that they keep them as nicely as we have, also we desire the Juniors to do all in their power to help fill the vacancy left by us in the hearts of the faculty members. We solemnly bequeath to the unsuspecting Sopho- mores a deeper sense of duty and wider view on life. To the Freshmen we leave our brains, and we are sure they will make good use of them. The individual Seniors, each having valuable pos- sessions, do hereby bequeath them as follows: Thomas Stoen wills to Arthur Eby his pull with out- of-town women. We hear he has a good start. Ralph Norland wills his fondness of a Sophcmcre girl to Gordon Wiltse. Henrik Aune wills a part of the seat in his new pick-up to Helen Lorvig. Luverne Hanson wills her love of jazz to Gerhard Lingen. Bertha Wollan wills her cheerful laugh to Howard Teigen. Julia Ranum wills her modest disposition to Earl Person.
