Casper jolmshoy, Direclor Robert Merrill, Presidenl Arlhur Nordfrerg, Sec.-Trcas . 'Y' R 0 The Starbuck School Band of forty pieces was organized af- ter the Christmas holidays. It is under the efficient direction of Rev. M. C. Johnshoy. Any pupil in the elementary or high school department of the school is eligible for membership. At present all classes are represented with the exception of the first and sec- ' ond grades. The band rehearses every Thursday afternoon at four 4 o'clock. It has performed at three entertainments since its organ- , zation.

H. S. gi By the erection of a gymnasium it has been possible to train the body as Cr gr well as the mindg and we feel that great advancement has been made in 6+ . this through the competent coaching of Miss Foss. 5' Q 252 The first public game was played between the Juniors and Seniors. QQ: The girls, having had only a few practices, showed lack of teamwork and 6 slow passes caused much amusement to the eager public. The Juniors, 2 however, being more clever than the Seniors were successful in winning 3 15, the game by a score of 24 to 12. O P' ' 3 The following week a regular team was chosen which consisted of the 3 oo Q: following players: Mabel Aaberg, R. F., Olea Mickelson, L. F.: Alpha 2 E, Scheflo, C.g Jeanette Brenden, G. 3 Jeanette Hagen, R. G.3 Lillian Tollef- D O' son L G 8 OO ' ' ' 0 OO D if The eventful game between the H. S. and Town Team showed great 2 Q0 improvement. The High School entered the game with a determination to Q Qi give the Town Team a hard battle. Not withstanding the fact that the H. 53 S. was left to the short end of the score, when the whistle sounded the first 19 gg half, they were gaining rapidly in the last half. The game ended finding the 3 score 29 to 19, and the H. S. victorious. Q 0, 9 22 Two weeks later the Town Team was out for revenge. Meanwhile the Q 'Q' fighting spirit and enthusiasm of the H. S. team had been kindled and a- o oo . . . 2: gain the Town Team met thelr Waterloo. The final score being 22 to 19. 2 oo The Basket Ball season reached its climax in the class tournaments. Q gi The line-up showing the following results: Freshmen-6, Sophomores- 13g Juniors-43, Seniors-21. 15 Q0 0 The consolation game between the Freshmen and Sophomores left the 212 Freshmen third place by a score of 21 to 11. gi 33 05 W The best and final game between the Juniors and Seniors kept the 221 spell-bound audience in continued suspense, while the score keeper enter- 2 tained optimistic views in favor of Junior victory. The Seniors, however, 3 realized their desire-to beat the Juniors in the final game and, hence, o O0 gain the championship of the High School. Q ir E This year the contestants were: Marion Nelson, Geneva Larson, Alma 'Z' on . Ov ci: G-order, Ethel Smedstad, Mabel Nelson, Robert Merrill, George Aune, Le- :Q 15. vin Tollefson, Arthur Nordberg and Olive Rundquist. In the three divi- .2 gl sions, first place was given to Robert Merrill, Oratorical, Marian Nelson, Q0 Dramatic and Levin Tollefson, Humorous. These three represented our 'O on . . . . oo Q0 High School at the Sub-district contest at Benson. Robert Merrill was a- so Xl gain awarded first, hence he had the opportunity of participating in the QQ: District Contest at Elbow Lake. He did not win at this contest but made a Q 21 very creditable showing.
