Jim 1 I' . 1' ' J Doorways have always beckoned to the adventurous and the timid alike. Those bold of heart push open the door and stride impatiently forward. Their more faint hearted coun- terparts nudge the door ajar and step hesitantly into the unknown . Here at Star-Spencer the beckoning doorways are always with us. As we roam down the halls, the doorways to chemistry, English, and history stand in waiting for the eager, the timid, the weak and the strong. We remember the doorway to the new gym, our new classrooms, the doorway to the pep rallies, Mr. Earnest's doorway and of course, that doorway where we met our dates . So, we pass from one doorway to the future that lies beyond. Reluctantly, the door behind us closes and we stride forward eagerly and hopefully toward the future. 1960 THE BDBCAT STAR-SPENCER HIGH SCHOOL OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA X .-..t, 1.3, 1 if' ',,'6..f'?' , 1 , ,. , a. ?J,,,ikQ:v- iq -45 V'-'Q ' ' . i - 1 fn .4-'A -. Foralltheirefforts we are especially grateful. Members of the school board and Mr. Harvey confer C. W. Earnest STAR - SPENCER PRINCIPAL The Principal Co-ordinutes Mr. C. W. Earnest is an integral part of the school life at Star-Spencer. He encourages the discouraged and dis- ciplines the unruly. Through his under- standin and 'ustice he ushes a'ar that 8 J , P J door to the outside. His example of re- sponsibility and integrity has opened a doorway to maturity for many students. Mr. J. O. Tomlinson, Mrs. Eleanor Lane and Mr. Dewey Metheny are impor- tant parts of our administration. Mr. Tomlinson, the vice-principal, arranges schedules and changes schedules, disciplines students with tact and a sense of humor which has made him popular in this his first year at Star-Spencer. For the first time this year, Mrs. Lane is serving as counselor. From her tests we learn what we like and what we should like. She also keeps us informed on scholarships avail- able. Filling the job of Co-ordinator of gg Federally Affiliated Students is Mr. Metheny . l-Ie keeps records of students with federally , employed parents and Indian records . All this plus teaching commerce classes makes Mr. Metheny one of our busiest teachers . J, O, TOMLINSON Vice -Principal With Aid of the Administration MR. DEWEY METHENY MRS. ELEANOR LANE Co-ordinator COUUSHOT MRS. JEAN HARTIS Acting as secretary to Mr. Harvey, Miss Hartis is a mainstay in the superin- tendent's office. Paying claims, writing checks and setting up Mr. Harvey's ap- pointments are only a few of her duties. She faces a thousand and one questions each day, copes with the drum practicing next door and never loses her sense of humor. Jenn and Janette Assist in Running Offices The secretaries are the backbone of the school. Students borrow their ditto papers and persuade them out of paper clips . They collect our money and check us out. We de- pend upon them and take them for granted, but we can never do without them. A combination treasurer, information booth and secretary to the principal is Miss Acree. The mimeographed forms necessary to the school are the work of the fine hand of Miss Acree on the mimeo- graph machine. We have her to thank for our daily bulletin, mail distribution and the many things that make up a smoothly functioning principal's office. MISS IANETTE ACREE 39' Mary Ann McKiernan, Sharon Jones, Dixie Plato Pat Hines, Betty Priddy, Karen Moreland With Help of Mrs. Mustin and Uffice Assistants Run to room 22, take this note to Mrs. Roddy, have Johnnie call home ....... AFTER you take around the absentee list. These are just a few of the many odd jobs the office girls do each hour. It is because of these small errands which help the administrators of our school that Star-Spencer runs smoothly . Sheissues admit slips, acts as cashier in the cafeteria and is indispensible to Star-Spencer. Mrs. Mastin trains office assistants and sells lunch tickets. We come to her for our admit slips, we borrow her telephone, her scissors, her stapler and she never loses patience. Mrs. Mastin has the distinction of being the proprietor of the school's Lost and Found Department. To her, we come in search of books, wallets and head scarfs . MRS. The yearbook, that this staff compiles, includes all school activities and represents the school as we see it in 1960. This year there were pages added, a new style cover, and the end sheets were high lighted with color for the first time at Star-Spencer. Mrs.-S. ivl.
