Class Prophecy In nineteen hundred seventy four, one day in late. November, I happened back to Star High School, a place I well remember. As I stood by the door and watched the students arrive, I wondered about the fate of the Class of Fifty-Five. After awhile, Heed fren walking and studying about. the past, I sat down on the steps and sleep claimed me at last. And unto me a phantom came - a woman grey and old, She offered, if I cared to hear, our fortunes to unfold, I asked about Pat Morgan, had his dreams come true, And learned that peddling pills at his drugstore kept him with plenty to do. Barbara Allen and Betty Bennett own a restaurant out from Raleigh about a mile, Their ad is ‘‘We serve the best food the best way - country style.’' Lts. J. T. Allen and Frank Kivett are serving Uncle Sam at their best, For they have just completed a successful nuclear weapons test. Lt. John Mashburn of the Air Force set a new record for jet plane speed, When an enemy fighter chased him across the Pacific to Fort Meade. Pat Reynolds, Nancy Needham, and Edna Dawkins are enjoying their nursing careers, When patients see the friendliness of these girls they quickly forget their fears. Douglas Kennedy has one of the nicest garages in N.C, with Willis Cagle his head mechanic, While Harvey Evans, who works for commercial airlines, flies high over the Atlantic. Melba Hancock, a Britt now is she, has Edna Odom asa neighbor, Their cute little children provide their hardest labor, D. J. Cagle, after studying textiles at N. C. State, Is selling perfumed socks at quite a rate. Betty Davis works in a hosiery mill; at looping she is skilled, Grady Dunn sits around in a silk mill;.for the position of foreman he has filled. Allene Davis and Louise Leach are stenographers in a big business office in central Carolina While James Brewer, a Chief Petty Officer. in the Navy, is headed for China, Betty Sams, still unmarried, from work has retired, She could have chosen from several suitors but not one she desired. Wallace Spivey, a Forest Ranger, is protecting North Carolina's trees, While Bobby Greene, in Agriculture, a brighter future sees. The phantom then left; once more I felt alive, I waked to find that. it was all a dream about the Class of °55, Prophet - Bobby Greene
