She also keeps house for Virgil. Bill Donnell is president of the Lucky Strike Tobacco Company. He and Mary Lou live in Georgia. where he can be near to his growing business. Thornhope now has a population of 25,tltl0. The Seward Plastic Company is re- sponsible tor this sudden increase. You guessed it! Charlie Seward's genius has finally been used to a good advantage, Bobby now sings with Tommy ltorsey's orchestra, and attends Art School on the side. They are on a world tour but can be heard on a national-world network every night. He has gained great renown for his intricate hairestylings. llow do you like being a Repreentative in the State Legislature? Perhaps I can use my influence to get you a position here in XVGiSi1lllZi,Ull, ll, C. l'm expecting to hear from you soon. Sincerely yours, ARGYLE. 4 CLASS POE THE TWELFTH STEP Atter this journey of twelve long years 'Phat has been spiced with happiness and tears, VVe've come to the step that spells successg We've toiled, we've sweated, we've forfeited to gain The knowledge we need, and it was not in vain, But until we arrive, we never will st-op, Of learning. True, our tastes will vary, The boys may discover, the girls inay marry, But whatever our courses, they all will lead To the step at the top and we'll all succeed. VVe've coine to the step that sometimes has failed But we'll follow the ones that really have sailed And struggled until they at last reached the top. We've got farther to go and it'll be harder, too, And the obstacles to pass won't be just a few, But until we arrive, we never will stop. So be not afraid, you teachers who've spent Much time in preparing us for this event, One of the happiest moments of all those who delve, Is success in passing STEP NUMBER TVVELVE. SPORTS Coach Dwight Surber has piloted the Star City High School basketball team through a very successful season considering the competition against whom the boys played. 1fVinniug 14 games and losing 7 for an average of 67 94, for the season is a record many teams would like to have. The Stars won the Invitational Tournament, held in our gymnasium Decem- ber 30, 1944. This is the first time Star City has won the tournament. In the first game, the Stars defeated a very strong Monterey quintet by a score of 27 to 17. This advanced the Stars into the finals where they turned on the heat to defeat Grass Creek 31 to 21 for the crown. In the County Tourney which also was held in our gym, the Stars were de- feated in their first game. It was a hard-fought game in which our boys were stone cold and had to overcome a 15 to 3 lead, obtained by Medaryville in the first quarter, in order to win. The Stars fell short, however, and the final score was 22 to 21, Me' daryville. The Starlets made the grade by defeating a strong Pulaski five 2-1 to 13 and then an undefeated Medaryville five 21 to 15. This makes the third consecutive year that the Starlets have been crowned County Champs. In the sectional tournament, the Stars entered their first game against a fight- ing Fulton crew and by playing nifty ball came -out on the long end of a 2-t to 23 score. Saying, Why stop now? , the Stars bowled over the favored Akron team in their second game by a score of 35 to 32. That game upset all dope -buckets for Akron was considered by all as the Sectional dark horse . The tired Stars then advanced into Semi-finals against the fresh Grass Creek quintet but couldn't find the range and bowed to a 24 to 19 defeat.
