b v When school began last October the children of the second grade and thirteen pupils of the third grade were assigned the southwest corner room of the new building. We thought this one of the nicest rooms of the building and soon became adjusted to our new surroundings. The enrollment of the second grade was eight- een. Of these Jane Bullard, Mary Hunt and Dee Hattabaugh entered the Star City School for the first time. At the end of the first month Jane Bullard withdrew and moved to Arkansas and Dean Hettinger moved to Thornhope. In January Bennie Haley from Grant County entered the class. In February Aldonna Cosgray from Logansport entered. ln the third grade Pauline Poole was the only new pupil. She did not remain long, but movedto Francesville in November. During the year special emphasis was placed on reading. The second grade reviewed readers, and did supplementary work in other second readers and the Weekly Reader. The second grade completed their readers and work books and did supplementary work in other readers. Our room took part in the Christmas operetta and the Farmers' Institute exhibit. We attended several programs in the gym and enjoyed them very much especially the one on India by Mr. Willett. On Thursday we enjoyed Mr. Byfieldfs music class. Seven pupils in our room were in the flute class and Donna Barker played a clarinet in the instrumental class. Our attendance was lowest in November and December when several pupils had the chicken pox. ln January several had colds and flu.
