Text from Pages 1 - 136 of the 1954 volume:

The flight of the ’54 ROCKET is scheduled to take you to all points of interest in the universe of school. We hope this extended trip through classes, clubs, sports, and person- alities will be pleasant and profitable. Last call for Flight 1953- 54! This yearbook is published by students of Star City High School, Star City. Arkansas. The ROCKET portrays in a wonderful way many of the activities of our student body. The activity program is based on sound principles of education. We learn best by doing. Interests and abilities arc discovered that may lead to a career. To use the ROCKET as an example, the staff receives valuable training in art, sales- manship, advertising, photography, journalism, business management, scheduling, and public relations. They know the value of teamwork and what it is to meet a deadline and a debt. They also know, the joy of a job well done and the thrill of creative work. We salute the staff and sponsor for the excellent work they have done in pro- ducing the 1954 ROCKET. _ JL. For the first time, we of the ROCKET staff wish to dedicate the 1954 edition of The ROCKET to the one person who deserves it most. A person who through endless effort and untiring patience, has guided us in making this edition of The ROCKET possible. To a wonderful sponsor, Mrs. Woodrow Vick. Our very’ sincere thanks. FISH ILAWEESE SHANNON The ROCKET Staff of 1954 salutes you Mr. Fish and Mrs. Shannon! Mr. Fish, we do appreciate a teacher who always has time to teach. We know you thought you hadn't time for this foolish picture-making, though. Thanks for obliging. Mrs. Shannon, your vibrant personality speaks for itself—and we are not saying you talk a lot. Mr. Fish couldn't have kept from smiling for you and for us in the picture above. Your charm and enthusiasm, your wonderful skill in speech art, your sympathetic understanding of the other person arc honestly appreciated by your student public. Mrs. A. M. Camp- bell succeeded Mrs. Vaughn Wade as president this year. The Bandmothers usually have a food stand at occasions like the fair, REA Day, Old Soldiers’ Reunion, using all proceeds for upkeep of instruments and uniforms of the band. Since REA Day the Bandmothers cleared $752 up until February 12. The Hallowe'en Carnival is the best money-maker, with most of the town joining in. The 1953 Carnival cleared $556. Other Bandmother officers are Mrs. Ed Gammill, Secretary-Treasurer, and Mrs. B. M. Gardner, Vice President. Throwing sock'’ balls at the target JUNIOR HIGH Blondic's nose caught that one!
