' I as uslotq confunue August 31 1954 marked the day 14 goonuers began theur Jun uor year at Baker Rural Hugh Jonathan Robunson dudnt return untul the second semester and Bull Founds left soon after the furst of the year However the rest of the class returned Class offucers were Januce Lunk presudent, Morrus Reynolds vuce presudent Charlene Deterdung, secretary, and Pat Salusbury treasurer Joyce Joosten and Dennus Kramer were members of the student councul Mr Belz was chosen class sponsor lt was he who gave the tutle 'Goonuers to the class Mr Buggerstaff dud not return so Davud Floyd Jouned the faculty Mr Belz took the posutuon of Englush teacher The bug event of the year was to choose the class rungs Fun ally on November 29th the long awauted utem arruved Everyone was well pleased wuth the chouce There were varuous projects to make money These uncludex bake sales a chulu feed, and sellung at the town team games The Junuor play Father Be Calm , was guven on Aprul 18 and 19 Bad The hughlught of the year was the Junuor Senuor Banquet A Raunbow theme was carrued out Everyone enjoyed the evenung The followung day whule on a luttle excursuon out west of town one of the fellow 'goonuers fell unto a tank, after whuch all made a solemn Journey to the well known offucel' School ended May 20th ln the fall of 1955 14 superuor Senuors returned to Baker Rural Hugh School for theur last flung at hugh school educatuon Class of fucers were Januce Lunk presudent lfourth termj, Joyce Joosten vuce presudent, Pat Salusbury, secretary and Charlene Deterdung treasurer Phyllus Kramer and Bob Fowler were student councul menu bers Morrus Reynolds was lected presudent of the student councul by the student body Mr Belz was agaun class sponsor There were several changes un the faculty thus term Mr H-nrt was Superuntendent, replacung Mr Corneer who moved to Luncoln to contunue work on hus Doctors degree Norman Yardley acted as Pruncupal and Francus Roche coach Mr Belz Ama Caress Vur gunna Jones and Mr Holub completed the faculty Gl S H . . I Y . - ' - , ' ' Y a Hcsfctu ccnflnue The flrst job for the mlghty Semors was to sell annual ads t North Platte The results were very satusfactory Red caps and gowns wuth whrte tassels were chosen for that far off Commencement Day and after Ilstenung to many sale men, announcements were selected Each Sensor went to the studno of his cholce to have photos taken The puctures were very good and all had fun exchangmg them with each other The Semors enjoyed presentmg thesr play Delughtfully Young The weather man again dld not cooperate r sultung mall crowd wl'o enjoyed tl'e play Other than the play money mak :ng projects Included a pancake feed and a chulu feed The Junlol Sensor Banquet was Aprll 23 The theme was Ha wanan It was beautiful, and was enjoyed very much by the Sensor The highlight of the year next to graduatlon, of course was the sneak trip on the weekend of May 47 The aCtIVItI6S were sightseeing dmlno and dancing roller skating shows, hopping taklng pnctures, and rxdlng nn the bus for hours and hours The Baccalaureate Servuces took place on May 13th wlth the Rev E E Jackman as the speaker Commencement was May 15 with Robert Corneer as the speaker 'oren Lutes recenved the Um versnty of Nebraska Freshman Scholarshlp Pat Salusbury was al ternate On Class Day May 16th the Seniors made the r last public appearance Track awards cltlzenshlp and leadershup awards were gnven out The annuals were dnstrxbuted and sold On May 17th the faculty presented the Sensors wnth then- last report cards, and well wnshes for a grand future . , a ' 1 ' ' 5 . - , , . . . A -.--- - - - ... ... -1-.-.u....,..n............ .. -,....,.. - .. .. ....,-...- enloft GS 'L C While touring the Sports Car and Motorcycle racing circuits of the world in the- yt ar 1980 wc decided to stop a each town and look up our former clas mates of 56 At the Daytona Beach Race m Florida we ran into Joyce Joos ten haullng beachcombers to the beach In her new Ford Pickup She told us she liked her work very much since most of her fellow beachcombers are fellows From Florida we went to New York to board a ship for France, and there on the ship scrubbing decks was Duane Deterding thirty year man in the Navy Duane said he used to be an Admiral but got busted to Swabby 3rd class when he went AWOL lover the h I On the way to Europe we met Dennis fCoonJ Kramer and some of his coon dogs By the way he holds the Worlds record for We arrived at LeMans for the big race, and then decided to Journey to Paris for a sightseeing trip At the local Music Academy we talked to Patty Salisbury a world renowned accordion teacher She credits her success to two raw eggs for breakfast three celery stalk for dmner and a chicken liver for supper Back at LeMans we I arned that a gray 49 Ford had entered the race and sure enough it was Arlen Bay s He said that after he ':l made All American In football flew some jets and coached at the Air Force Academy for awhile, he decided to Journey around th world We wished him luck in the race, then went on to wan it By the way Arlen came in second Meanwhile, back at th ranch Jake Kramer and Bob Fowler are still riding broncs Bob's on ambition is to stay on one someday But Jake? Well hes been worlds champion the last twenty years Hes grown quite a stomach too, seems it holds more silver buckles that way While we were waiting for our plane to fly us back to New York we had our baggage loaded by Janice Link the only woman baggage loader in the world She said she applied for a stewardess Job but was about a foot too short Guess she must have grown some since high school days il p. . V b Y , , - i enact ass pta li continue Back in New York City we heard that some local talent was appearing at the Metropolitan opera house We got some box tickets and sat down for the performance And what to our wandering eye should appear but Phyllis fWhc-ezyj Kramer, the star of the show She has acquired quite a bankroll with that hoarse husky wheezing reverberating voice of hers On our way to the Indianapolis 500 race we stopped at Phila delphia at the Lutes School of Knowledge where we visited with Professor Loren fEinstelnJ Lutes He told us that he has thrown Emsteins Theory out of the window and developed one of his own He always did have a little smart to him Benson Lehmkuhler had been appointed Secretary of Agriculture and has already raised the hog prices from a few cents a pound to few pounds a cent More pork to you, Ezra Ernie We journeyed to the Bonneville Salt Flats for the annual speed classic but instead of hot rods all we saw were milk cows and goats Not to our surprise they were owned by Charlene Deterding Sh said she was milking about 200 cows and 100 goats a day, and that they ate so much salt she decided to lease the Salt Flats from the government Oh well Charlen always did like to milk cows So Bonneville being the last race of the circuit we went home and in the local paper we read that Paul Belz was manufactur ing his own nerve medicine You dont suppose the Seniors of 56 were too hard on him do you' Oh yes and WE?
