Class Hlstory Three short years ago 1n September of 1941 approxxmately 160 of Bedfords most promxsmg young genulses declded to honor Staples by the1r presence W1th Chester Eskey as class presldent B111 Garrlety as v1ce presxdent CChad Hall took over 1n th1s capaclty when B111 Garrlety leftj Bob Lanehart as secretary and Col1n Blrchwood as treasurer we were fa1rly launched 1n the year Henry Coley Bob Lane hart Dugald Roy Chad Hall George Prevo B111 Jones Henry Colby and Leo M1les helped to uphold our honor on the football field It was a very successful season 1nasmuch as we won the County B champlonshlp for both foot ball and basketball Louls Dorsey Donald Reld Henry Coley James Drlscoll Walter Kakaszka Chester Eskey Robert Marlm Peter Reynolds and B111 Jones went out for baseball Lo1s St John James McNally and Chester Eskey d1d their b1t for us 1n the Student Coun c1l the latter as secretary Carol Baker Joyce and Renette M1ller were Inkl1ngs contr1butors. Mar1lyn McMahon Frances Ortowskl and Dare Baxley were members of the Hockey team Despxte ammun1t1on shortages the rlfle clubs had quxte a good season wxth Leona OConnor Robert Ulmer Leo M1les Douglas Young Lynn Ell1s Nancy Jones Joyce Walsh Ruth Nevms Dorls DeLon Jane Ell1s Chad Hall represent 1ng us The Student Councrl sponsored a dance whxch took the place of the Sophomore Hop and the Semors Song Txtle Dance Holdmg a p1cn1c at Compo Beach 1n June w1th swlmmmg games and lunch completed our first year at Staples We left her happy wlth the prospect of return 1ng as Jumors 1n the fall E1ect1ng Dugald Roy to be at the controls as presldent Clllford McGee as v1ce presldent Lols St John as secretary and Bob Lanehart as treas urer the JUDIOTS began the1r second year here Bob Lanehart Henry Coley Henry Colby Jack Legxer Dugald Roy Chad Hall George Prevo and Leo M1les agam were out there pull1ng for the success of Staples gr1d1ron Supportmg the basketball team were Lou1s Dorsey Alex Klsh Robert Qulgley B111 Jones and James Drlscoll On the Student Councll were Henry Colby as v1ce presxdent Anna Arcudl and Henry Coley 1V any students agam wrote for Inklmgs Edlth Ma1n Mar1lyn McMahon Henry Colby George Prevo Cl1fford McGee were members of the band We were unable to g1ve a play because of d1Hicu1t1es presented by gasolxne rat1on1ng The J umor and Semor Proms were therefore held together at Longshore wxth many 1n attendance from each class Return1ng to Staples for our last year resulted ln electlon of Henry Coley as class presldent P1err Johnson as v1ce presldent Frances Ortow skl as secretary and Joyce Walsh as treasurer One xmportant event of thls year was the Thxrd War Bond dr1ve m whxch Staples students sold Bond dr1ve almost doubled th1S totaL Frances Ortowskx and Anna Lucxano sold the most bonds Captamed by Henry Coley the football team had an excellent season wmnmg the County B Conference T1tle In the Red Cross Club were May W1lcox Lora M1lls Catherme Saunders Inklmgs w1th Carol Baker as ed1tor ass1sted by many of the class went 1ts unmter rupted way The Semors voted to present You Cant Take lt wlth You for the1r play Wlth Loxs St John and Dugald Roy 1n the lead plus Renette M1ller Glona Manere George Prevo Joyce Walsh P1err Johnson Stanley Gregory Jean MBCKIDHOD Jerry Hall Harry Wood Leo M1les Carol Baker Joan Kramer Douglas Young Rrchard Rode Jack Mohr and Henry Coley the play was a grand success Ed1tor of the yearbook Loxs St John and about thxrty others worked on the 1944 ed1t1on The prom at Longshore and the rece1v1ng of dlplomas of fic1a1ly ended our hxgh school careers. l I , A 1 1 1 7 , , . .
