Elementary Principal Courtney pVifiClP0l In recognition of the many good services they have rendered in our behalf. It is my privilege to express my appreciation to all those people who help to make a good school year -- students, faculty, school board members, and patrons. It takes all these people working together to accomplish the aims ofa good school. The Yearbook Staff and their Sponsor have worked hard to assemble this fine record of the activities of the year 1962-63 , and to them goes my espec- ial appreciation. Sincerely. L. M. Hays, Superintendent Zdamzd This year we have tried to make our Yearbook an original one and a personal book of memories for each student. We hope you will receive as much pleasure and enjoyment from looking at this book as we have received from the making of it. It is not possible for us to say how much we have enjoyed this our last year on the staff of the Roundup, and it is with regret that we relinquish our positions. To the staff of the 1964 Yearbook, we leave all our best wishes and hope you can look back on your year of work with as many warm memories as we have ofour year. This is a little stage in comparison to some stages, but for four years, more or less, we have played our parts on it. Sometimes we have forgotten our parts, but we have had our ideals and havetried to givethe best of our talents to our school world. Now the curtain is going down on this part of our lives, and we want to leave something for the coming class to remember us by. So we leave the following will and testament. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the members of the graduating class of 1963 of Stanton High School, in the city of Stanton, county of Martin, state of Texas, being of questionably sound mind, poor health, and frazzled nerves, do hereby leave and bequeath these - our last wishes and possessions. Article I To the teachers, who have gone through the ordeal of showering us with knowledge, we leave our sincerest gratitude for theirelforts and hope that someday they may have a class brighter than this one. To the seniors of 1964 we leave the confidence that they will fill our places worthily. To the coming juniors, we leave, glad of the fact that they are getting closer and closer to being seniors. To the sophomores we leave all that high and mighty, know-it-all feeling that comes with the seoond year of high school. To the freshmen we leave the memories ofa year that is probably the happiest year in high school. - Article II I, Larry Adkins, leave my poetic ability to Harold Cain. Al- though his grades have not always been at the top of his class, he has always gotten along well with his teachers because ofhis dependability and consistent work. Tommy's extra-curricular love is sports. Through his first three years he has taken an active part in all sports: football all three years, trackin freshman andjunior years, and basketball his sophomore year. He has been a member of the Lettermen's Club all three years. Besides his school work, Tommy is interested in Com- munity work and takes an active part in church work. He is a good citizen in theschooland community, and we believe he will be the same when he graduates next year and has to try his skills in a larger world. Carolyn Springer, a sophomore, has found time in two years of high school to take part in a variety of activities. She is a very versatile girl. She served her freshman class as Secretary-Treasurer, and her Sophomore class as Student Council representative. This year she was a member of the Yearbook staff and a good one. She has helped to boost'school spirit by being a member of the Pep Squad. Carolyn serves her school as StudentReporter to the Big Spring Herald. As an active member of FHA, Carolyn serves as Histor- ian, and holds the Junior Degree ofAchievement. Carolyn is a member ofthe NationalHonor Society, and has been chosen Student of the Month three times. Her election to the page of Faculty Who's Who is a well deserved honor. TOMMY SHANKS -Junior Jana has been active in every phase of High School work for all four of her high school years. She has served as secretary of the Student Council, Vice-President of FHA, Co-Editor of the Yearbook of 1963, Secretary-Treasurer of the Pep Squad, and Pianist for the Choir in her senior year. Jana is well liked by everyone. She was elected Class officer two years, Class favorite two years, and Best Natured this year. Not only is she admired by her fellow students, but also by the faculty who elected her citizen of the month two years and as a candidate to represent Stanton in the state Daughters of the American Revolution. Jana is an KA' student and has brought recognition to the school by winning first in Interscholastic League Typing Contest, attending theState FHA meeting in Dallas, and State Student Council meeting as a junior. She is also active in community and church affairs. Truly she is a well rounded citizen. MARY GLASPIE -Junior JOANNA EPLEY - Senior Maryis accomplishments speak louder than words. She has participated actively in FHA, Student Council, and National Honor Society. She has been Secretary of FHA and President of the National Honor Society. Mary was a class officer her freshman and junior years, and class favorite her junior year. She has participated actively in basketball and volley- ball for three years, and was chosen Most Athletic her junior year. Mary has represented her school as Cheerleader for two years and has been chosen for her senior year also. She attended the State FHA meeting in Dallas, and the Southern Association of Student Councils in Amarillo. Mary has shown herself to be a good student and citizen by being named Student of the Month as well as Faculty Who 's Who for the Yearbook. We think you must all agree that Mary is a credit to her school and to her community. - f .,.,-: ' CARROLL ANDERSON Carroll is just a sophomore, but his achievements are beginning to mount. He has participated in football and basketball both yearsg ran track his freshman year, and this year he is playing tennis. This is his second year in the Lettermen's Club. Carroll has been a class officer for two years and was Class Favorite his freshman year. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was chosen Most Intellectual this year. QGCCVZCZ The Stanton High School Bulfaloes were not always successful in winning games in the 1962 season, but did achieve several goals. In the roughest schedule in Stanton Football history which included five district champions, QBig Lake, Seagraves, Fort Stockton, Denver City, and Cranej Stanton won four and lost six. Big Lake, Denver City, and Seagraves were rated among the top ten teams of their classes in the state. Possibly the game which was outstanding over any other game in our 1962 season was the Seagraves game. Seagraves was rated number nine in the state at the time of the Stanton Victory, 19-12. jack Thomas, head coach at Hardin-Simmons University spoke at the football banquet, held in the Cap-Rock Banquet room December 17, 1962. Stanton Players named to the all-district team were announced at the banquet. They were Dewey Anderson, Bud Glaspie, Bill Graves. Those making honorable mention were Mack Mathis, Ted Stewart, and Ben Mott. Bill Graves was named lineman of the year, Dewey Anderson was named back of the year, and Bud Glaspie was voted most valuable player. The football squad also selected a fan of the year: Cormie Mack Hood. Captains were named at the banquet. They were Mickey Allen, Donnie Polson, and Ronald Hartsell. The banquet officially closed the 1962 season and unofficially opened the 1963 season. 1962 FOOTBALL RESULTS Merkel 34-18 Crane 0-13 Coahoma 8- 0 Denver City 0-56 Fort Stockton 12-14 MCC amey 15-26 Seagraves 19-12 Alpine 27. 0 Big Lake 8-28 Sonora 21-24 JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL The junior Varsity team gave an indication that Stanton Teams in the future may be hard to handle by opponents. They had a 4-4 season record against the toughest opposition available, beating Coahoma and Post twice and losing twice to the Mono- hans reserves, the Crane junior varsity, and the Forsan A team, which moved up to eleven man football to tune up for district play, which incidentally they won. Try to imagine today's world without electric lights or factory motors . . . without refrigeration or television . . . without the benefits of hundreds of other uses of electric energy. Because electric power is so essential to progress, Texas Electric constantly plans ahead and builds new power plants, lines and other facilities. For this reason, you may be sure that in the area we serve there will always be plenty of dependable electric power for progress and for better living.
