J,, DEDICATIO School these days is really big business and it takes big men to make it a suc- cess. We are truly proud of our school and of the men who have made it what it is. In recognition of these facts we, the Staff of the 1961 Buffalo Round Up of Stanton High School, have dedicated this book to our Board of School Trustees. We are grateful to these successful business men of our town who are giving their time and efforts to make our schools better and better. When it comes our time to manage the affairs of the school, we want to justify the faith which these men have in us and to carry on the progressive ideas and improve- ments as they are doing now. He Served as President of the National Honor Society his Junior Year, and as class representative and assembly chair- man for the Student Council his Senior year. ' Through the four years he has taken an active part in all types of athletics, including football, basketball, and track. He is a member of the Letterman's Club, H15 final Yea-1' in Sports he was given Honorable Men- tion as All-District quarterback in football. Redgy's future will, without doubt, lead him to college at Graceland, Lamoni, Iowa, REDGY CHURCH, Senio r If you have noticed someone who goes to all the school functions she can, you have noticed Marsha Bristow. She loves to participate in as many activities as she can and still keep her grades up. She belongs to nearly every club in High School. Marsha's favorite activities are band and FHA. She has been head majorette of the High School band for three years, and plays first chair saxophone in the Concert Band. She has attended many band clinics and schools. In her FHA work she has done well and hopes to do better. She served one year as District President and as Vice-President of the local chapter. She has completed two of hel degrees of achievement and is trying to earn her State degree this year. This is the highest honor az FHA member can receive. She also plans to run for a State office this year. Marsha really has no favorites in her activities. She has been a member of the National Honoi Society since her sophomore year and values it as one of her most important activities. She has alsc been a very active Student Council Member. She has attended West Texas Forum, State Convention, SouthernAssociation, and last summer was selected as one of 14 Texas Delegates to attend theNation- al Convention of Student Councils held in Janesville, Wisconsin. She works hard for her own Junior Class. She was class favorite her freshman year, vice-pres- ident sophomore year, and secretary this year. Also she had a part in the class play this spring. Marsha enjoys literary activities too. She has entered Interscholastic League contests each year- debate and spelling. She enjoys sports, too. In freshman year she played basketball, but gave it up for Tennis. That she is popular with the students is shown by the fact that she was chosenfor two places on Person- alities pages of the Yearbook this year - Band Sweet- heart and the girl of the Cutest Couple. Marsha enjoys school and plans to be a teacher after she finishes her college education. 30 MARSHA BRISTOW, Junior xxfHo's WHCJ If you have seen a lovely black pony tail going by ke a streak, more than likely it was Elida Reyna 'ying to make the day long enough to get all her act- 'ities worked in. Elida is a very gracious person id has been ajoy to all her friends and teachers dur- .g all her high school days. She is an athlete aswell 5 an intellectual. Elida has been one of the most valuable Basket- ill players all her four years in High School, serving S captain her senior year. She has played volleyball lfery year except freshman, and was a member of the ep Squad her junior year. Last fall the faculty chose her as Citizen of the ear to participate in a theme writing contest spon- ired by the Daughters of the American Revolution. he wrote on the subject What Avail if Freedom Fail? lida served her class as Student Council Represent- ,ive both junior and senior years, was a National onor Society member junior year, and FHA mem- er freshman year. She also assisted some of the teachers with their grading chores. This year Elida was elected to two of the top honors of the school, Faculty Who's Who and Most ikely to Succeed. The latter honor is by student election to the Personality pages of the Yearbook. Elida plans to continue her education probably in HCJC for a year or two and after that in Sul Ros. ELIDA REYNA, Senior Weems is a fellow who doesn't do much talking about what he does or is going to do, but he has ad a big part in lots of things during the four years he has been in SHS. As for grades, he has been on the honor roll every semester, and was a Chapter member of the Tational Honor Society. This year he received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit cholarship Qualifying Test which is a nation wide test given to all seniors. This letter is a notice that Weems ranked in the top three percent of all High School seniors. He is an alternate on the Student Iouncil for the Senior class. Weems has taken part in almost all the Inter- scholastic League Literary events. He entered Num- ber Sense in his freshman year and placed ninth, in his junior year, his debate team was second in the District. He has received various S awards whichare given at the end of school for proficiency in a subject- in science, spanish, and math. In his junior year he had a leading part in the play The Skeleton Walks . In spite of being literary, Weems is also an ath- lete. He has played center on the football team since his sophomore year, making the starting line-up as a senior. This year he made Personality page in the year- book - his fellow students elected him Most Likely to Succeed . Weems plans to go to Texas Tech after High School is over. WEEMS WILLIAMS, Senior 31 BOBBY SALE, Senior Because of his many and varied interests, higl intelligence, and a great sense of humor, it is no surprising that Bobby Sale should be elected to Who': Who. Although he has been active in many extra-curri- cular activities, he has maintained high grades. His winning many honors and trips with his prize winning beef cattle exemplifies his interests and ac- complishments in the local 4-H club. Other agri- cultural activities include F. F. A. his Freshman anc sophomore years. He lettered infootball his Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years. Another activity in which he parti- cipated was Track his Sophomore and Junior years. His popularity with the Students is shown by elect- ing him Vice President of his class his Junior year, Student Council treasurer, National Honor Society president, Mr. SHS, and most handsome all in his Senior year. The teachers have nodded their approval of Bobby by electing him to the National Honor Society, Yearbook Who's Who, and by appointing him as business manager for both The Buffalo Heard and The Buffalo Roundup. All must agree that it is certainly a credit to Stanton High School to have had Bobby as a student. The work these people do is a very important part of schoolwork. Without the Library, school would not function very Well. The boys and girls who do this work have to have a great deal of patience and diplomacy to work with other boys and girls, especially those who think sometimes that they have returned a book when all the time that book is right Where that fellow used it last. Mrs. Cage teaches these students about the library and how and where to find the wanted books. We express our sincere appreciation to her and to the student librarians. f THE BUFFALO HE RD Published every Friday by the students of the Journalism Class Sponsor ..... Editor ........ It performed for all football games and pep rallies, Santa Claus Day, and the Christmas Festival. Contests played a major role inbuilding up enthusiasm in the band. In marching, Stanton acquired a Division II, with a Division I in inspection. Solo contests and concert contests are yet to come. A second place trophy was won by the band at the Permian Basin Oil Parade at Odessa. A marching festival was attended at Seagraves. This renewed idea of a winning band can be attributed to the vigorous attitude of the band members and to the untiring enthusiasm of the director, Mr. Taylor Stephenson. Not pictured are Eugene Robertson and Roger Boyce who contributed much good work in the Art department. They submitted the drawings of the Buffaloes which appear on several pages of this book as the motif for the year. They each won a free Yearbook for these drawings. All the people pictured above contributed a great deal to the making of this book. They sold ad- vertising in Big Spring, Midland, and Stantong and sold subscriptions to their fellow students. Some of them, especially Ann, Joanna, and Kay on Snapshot pages, helped with the make-up of the various pages and the typing. CHEER LE DER DIANNE T URNER, Sr . SPECIAL PEQPLE KCQQQ L 5 2 ,,w.4f May Iexpress my appreciation to the Yearbook staff and their sponsor for the time and effort they have put into this year's book, and for the wonderful success they have made of it. I would also like to express to the faculty and to the principals my sincere thanks for their cooperation and efforts to make this year the best of all years at Stanton. I feel that through your efforts our students and patrons are fast becoming conscious of the fact that our school system is growing in its educational efforts and accomplishments. As We have heard so much concerning the progress we should make in the 6O's, let's all strive to help our nation accomplish this progress. It would be thoughtless indeed not to give proper thanks to our Board of Education for the time, effort, and support they have given to our school. Also we need to express our appreciation to our community for its support of our school because it is through the community that We have our success. 5 Sincerely, Supe rin de t Principals g, fY i'1?S wifi?
