Foreword Our world today is progressing so fast it is often hard to keep up with it. One of the major effects progress has had on our school was the unification which took place this year. Johnson High today is larger than ever before; therefore, it is more able to offer the students a better educa- tion. Education is becoming more and more important in today's world of rockets, computers, and instantaneous world-wide communication. In order to maintain the American way of life, to keep America the great free country it is, we must have a strong, patriotic, and well-educated people to carry on the fight for each individual's freedom. The people responsible for America's tomorrow will come from the ranks of today's students. This book is compiled of excerpts from our life at J. H. S. as we prepare ourselves for the demands of the space- age. 2

A Message From Superintendent John W. Harper Accomplishments in any school system in this complex world depend upon the cooperation of the students, teachers, principals, superintendent, parents, and the school board. Combining five districts into one smoothly operating unit, dedicated to create a learning atmosphere aimed toward education, is no easy task. Proper facilities and equipment must be provided. Personnel that will instill in you an inquisitiveness about the world and its life, plus an understanding of its moral, spiritual, and cultural values are needed to develop the proper kind of education. Education is painful, continual, and difficult work to be done by kind- ness, firmness, by warning, by precept, by praise, but above all, by example. Abraham Lincoln once said, I will study and get ready, and perhaps my chance will come. Follow the advice of this great scholar. Sincerely, John W. Harper Mrs. Iris Lane, Secretary 4
