Science, Math, And Home Ec. Coach Morris, teacher of General Science and also senior sponsor, had some interesting experiences with the freshmen this year. They did some dissecting and gave oral reports in class. He coached Cross Country, Track and was assistant Football coach. Mr. Downs, the sophomore spon- sor and new science teacher, taught Biology, chemistry, and physics. A big project in the biology class was the dissecting of a pig. Getting through the year without any explosions was felt to be a big triumph by the Chemistry students. This was Miss Jordan's first year of teaching. She taught Homemaking I, II, III and IV, teaching cooking, sew- ing, and home living in each class. Besides spending much time with her classes, she was kept busy with her task of sponsoring the Junior Class. Mr. Parks spent his days calcula- ting math problems. He taught algebra I and II, geometry, and trigonometry. As freshman class sponsor, he helped with the class treasury. Go ahead, Bobby, it won't bite! says Coach Morris during class. Language Arts And Library The language arts classes were kept very busy this year by editing the Trojan newspaper, working on the annual, form- ing clubs, and doing many other various activities. The English classes were taught this year by Mrs. Davidson and Mrs. Cheno- weth, with Mrs. Davidson teaching junior and senior English and literature and fresh- man literature. Mrs. Chenoweth taught freshman grammar and sophomore English and literature. Mrs. Chenoweth, a junior sponsor, also directed the junior class play, and Mrs. Davidson, a senior sponsor, di- rected the senior play, the one-act contest play, the speech contestants, and was the adviser for the newspaper and the year- book. Mr. Dietrick, a freshman sponsor, was well occupied with teaching the Spanish and German classes and conducting the Spanish and German clubs. He plans to study abroad in Germany this summer. The library was well organized this year under the direction of the school librarian, Mr. Herndon. The library was increased this year by moving the books out into the study hall. The sophomores had Mr. Herndon as a sponsor this year. Mrs. Chenoweth answers Cindy's grammar question. Social Science And Business Ed. Mr. Staker points out the location of territories to the American History class. Mr. Staker, teacher of American History, World History, and Constitu- tion, discussed current events with his students and helped them try to solve the many problems involved in the world today. Besides teaching, Mr. Staker had the big job of being one of the senior class sponsors. Many of the interesting peculiari- ties of the world were revealed to the Sociology and International Relations students under the instruction of Mr. Herndon. In Sociology, an unusual study was made of a teen-age girl who had been raised by a wolf pack. Coach Ogletree, teacher of eco- nomics, typing, and shorthand, spent many hours listening to the clicking sound of beginner typists. Coach, who transferred from Manter High School, was kept busy as a Freshman class sponsor by helping them adjust to the new life of high school. He was head Basketball coach. Many hours were spent by the Bookkeeping students as they tried to solve the difficulties that popped up during class while working in their workbooks. Mr. Vecera, principal, helped out by showing the future accountants how to make the debits equal the credits. These boys study International Relations with Mr. Herndon's guidance. Everyone concentrates in Mr. Ogletree's typing Beth Canny and Janice Fields have Mr. Vecera class, while trying to keep from making mistakes. help them balance a bookkeeping problem. 11
