Language Arts And Library The language arts classes were kept very busy this year by editing the Trojan newspaper, working on the annual, form- ing clubs, and doing many other various activities. The English classes were taught this year by Mrs. Davidson and Mrs. Cheno- weth, with Mrs. Davidson teaching junior and senior English and literature and fresh- man literature. Mrs. Chenoweth taught freshman grammar and sophomore English and literature. Mrs. Chenoweth, a junior sponsor, also directed the junior class play, and Mrs. Davidson, a senior sponsor, di- rected the senior play, the one-act contest play, the speech contestants, and was the adviser for the newspaper and the year- book. Mr. Dietrick, a freshman sponsor, was well occupied with teaching the Spanish and German classes and conducting the Spanish and German clubs. He plans to study abroad in Germany this summer. The library was well organized this year under the direction of the school librarian, Mr. Herndon. The library was increased this year by moving the books out into the study hall. The sophomores had Mr. Herndon as a sponsor this year. Mrs. Chenoweth answers Cindy's grammar question. Science, Math, And Home Ec. Coach Morris, teacher of General Science and also senior sponsor, had some interesting experiences with the freshmen this year. They did some dissecting and gave oral reports in class. He coached Cross Country, Track and was assistant Football coach. Mr. Downs, the sophomore spon- sor and new science teacher, taught Biology, chemistry, and physics. A big project in the biology class was the dissecting of a pig. Getting through the year without any explosions was felt to be a big triumph by the Chemistry students. This was Miss Jordan's first year of teaching. She taught Homemaking I, II, III and IV, teaching cooking, sew- ing, and home living in each class. Besides spending much time with her classes, she was kept busy with her task of sponsoring the Junior Class. Mr. Parks spent his days calcula- ting math problems. He taught algebra I and II, geometry, and trigonometry. As freshman class sponsor, he helped with the class treasury. Go ahead, Bobby, it won't bite! says Coach Morris during class. Miss Jordan helps Mary Sue Harmon and Roetta These senior boys enjoy solving the problems that Floyd with pattern layouts in Home Ec III. Mr. Parks assigns. 10
