Banquet 28 SNAPSHOTS 30 31 32 HISTORY Of The Graduating Class of 1959 Twenty-six bright-eyed children were all greeted by Mrs. Eichorn, who had the overwhelming task of teach- ing each of us our A B C's. We began our schooling in the little white school buildings south of the old stone building. Our class roll was as follows; Sharon Albertson, Cora Andrews, Carlos Arnold, Karen Abney, Mable Belshe, Gary Brady, Myrna Fiss, Karla Kay Hurst, Mary Johnston, Cynthia Scott, Bobby Wilson, Patty Dean, Ben Ennis, Janice Smith, Marylin Richard, Ray Hopkins, Sandra Troutman, Jimmie Combs, Donna Wilkerson, Velma Kistler, Douglas Hilton, Yvonne McGowen, Frankie Combs, Jimmie Combs, JoAnn Wilson, and Olga Lymon. In the second grade we mastered more of the three R's and also learned how to tell time under the direction of our teacher, Mrs. Munger, Classmates moving away that year included Cora Andrews, Karen Abney, Mable Belshe, Gary Brady, Mary Johnston, Patty Dean, Olga Lymon and Ray Hopkins. Jean Ellis and Ronnie St. Johns entered our class bringing the count to twenty. Just think, attending school in the old stone building with the big kids ! Third grade found this dream come true with Mrs. Graves as our teacher. New Members of our class were Jon Nelson and Gary Simmermon. Mrs. Barnett was our fourth grade teacher. One of our classmates, Karla Kay Hurst became ill and passed away during this school year. Mary Harvison, Jerry Combs, Robert Cadenhead, and George Campbell joined our class this year. Our class roll for the fifth grade dwindled as Douglas Hilton and Myrna Fiss moved away. Curtis Smith's name was added to the roll. Mrs. Tallman was our teacher. A brand new school building and brand new teacher greeted us as we became sixth graders. Miss McQuirk was our teacher. Cynthia Scott, Olga Lymon, and Jean Ellis moved away. Dixie Wibright became a new member of our class. Coach Cales taught us in the seventh grade. Glenn Larkins and Karen Aller, were new pupils. Robert Cadenhead and Glenn Larkins moved away. New classmates in the eighth grade were Marcia Killfoil, Jean Ellis and Bob Holman. Mrs. Davidson taught us in the morning, and Mr. Donart had our afternoon classes. Our first class plays were given that year under the direction of Mrs. Davidson. Sixteen eighth grade students from Johnson Grade School and seven from Big Bow, to become members of our freshman class in high school, graduated May 13, 1955. Many changes occurred including our Alma Mater as we, the Class of 59, entered doors of good old J. H. S. Ben Ennis headed our class as freshman president; others on the class roll were Curtis Smith, Karen Aller, Sandra Troutman, Bob Holman, Johnny Weis, Donna Wilkerson, Lanny Loeppke, Walter Payne, Yvonne McGowen, John Jones, Velma Kistler, Harold Shore, Marylin Richard, Don Ruth, and Ray Higgs. One of the main highlights of our freshman year came on Friday of the first week of school. Freshman initiation! Karen Aller was chosen football queen candidate for the freshman class. During the second year of high school, Lanny Loeppke was president of our sophomore class. New members of our class were Garry Plummer, Bennie Morgan, C. D. Pearce, and Leila Brooks, Sandra Troutman was chosen football queen candidate from our sophomore class. Our main money-making project for our Junior class was the magazine sale. Lanny Loeppke was again elected president of the class and Donna Wilkerson was elected basketball queen for 1958. The Junior play entitled Finders Creepers was presented by the class and directed by Loren Alexander. Oasis Inn will long be remembered as the theme for the Junior-Senior banquet this year, which was given by the Junior class with the help of Mrs. George and Junior mothers. Senior days are happy days, also days of growing responsibility. We being the oldest class in school, Prof, would say several times. It's up to you Seniors, whether it was in sportsmanship, conduct, or competition. Garry Plummer is our class president this year. Marylin Richard was chosen as senior basketball queen candidate and was elected basketball homecoming queen. Our class was active in every curricular activity. Sandra Troutman was Drum Majorette and led the band in the parade at the State Fair. On our senior trip, we spent a enjoyable week in the Ozarks. As we sixteen seniors march down the aisle to receive our long-sought diplomas, we will bring the history of the class of '59 to a close. Many are the good times we have had together, playing and learning. Our future success basically lies with the good foundation provided us by our parents and teachers through our first twelve years of school. Our heartiest thanks to these two wonderful groups of persons. 33 COMMENCEMENT TUESDAY, MAY 19, 1959 8:15 O’CLOCK Prelude Theme from the Concerto in Bb Minor ........
