FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The president, in the opening ceremonies of the F.F.A. meetings, asks: Fellow members, why are we here? His Chapter replies: To practice brother- hood, honor rural opportunities and responsibilities, and develop those qualities of leadership a Future Farmer should possess. The principles for such ac- tion are clearly defined in the F.F.A. Creed and purposes. The Chapter early in the year adopts a program of work and labors diligently to accomplish the goals thus established. Officers for the year were: Presi- dent-Clayton Aumanng Vice-President-B a r r y Schuebel' Secretary William Luebstorf' Treasurer Sentinel Marlyn Brandt ART CLUB The nature and character of the Art Club are based on Art for enioyments sake It provides a opportunity for people of like interests to meet and develop their skills Our projects vary from fine to commercial art and include abstract work char coal pastel and oil body and figure sketching per spective clay soap and plaster work poster work finger painting designing etc The club renders service through poster work Holiday bulletin boards and the like' The members also learn to appreciate the works of great artists FORENSICS Forensics offer manifold opportunities for a student to develop his powers of speech Forensics received unusual impetus this year when over one hundred students went out for the local speech con test Not all of them made the grade but those who did will become valuable members of that worthwhile organization the Forensic Club That organization includes inter school contests and speech clinics in its program This year s group participated in the Cloverbelt League the District Contest and the State Speech Clinic at Madison on April 11 S far Sonia Broberg and oanne Hagen have Journey ed to Eau Claire to participate in the Voice of Liberty and the Disc jockey s contest Four girls Sonja Bro berg Gretchen Solie Connie Broberg and oanne Hagen won the right at the District to appear in the finals at Madison

STUDENT COUNCIL As Congress is the link between the people and their government so the Student Council is the link between the students of a school and its administrat ors The main purpose of having such councils in schools is to give students greater responsibility In S H S the council desires to promote school ac tivities cooperate with the organizations of the school and regulate those phases of school life speci fied by the superintendent In that connection it has this year sponsored Dads Night and Homecoming had charge of the March of Dimes campaign at the high school, chosen lyceurn programs and sold tickets for them, chartered clubs helped with Award Day sold basketball tickets received and passed on appli cations for school dances and given consideration to many issues promoting the welfare of the school ONI BECOMES HIS PULL SELF ONLY BY BECOMING AN INSTRUMENT IN A CAUSE GREATER THAN HIMSELF Among the many who set the cause above the gain were this years cheerleaders Lois Meyer Dido Overgard Jerri Webber oanne Hagen and Lora Lee Gibbs PUBLICATIONS Headlines-Deadlines-what incentives t h o s e words are to journalism students! And what a head- ache they can also be to the Orange and Black staff that meets regularly every Wednesday and Friday under the supervision of Mr. Zier. This is the group that publishes the school news featuring the inter- esting school personalities and sports events of the week in the Stanley Republican. The editor assist- ant editor and feature writers have two purposes in mind as they write: to acquaint the parents and lo- cal townspeople with the facts about school people and to establish agreeable public relations for Stan- ley High among those same people. More power to them as they make those headlines and meet their deadlines. Here they are: Betty Fagen, Marlene Es- linger Ida Mae jandrt Marion Miland, and Lucille Pozdell.
