A new type of Student Government has been organ- ized this year in what is known as the Student Coun- cil. The Council consists of three members from each class which meets regularly twice a week. The of- ficers of the council are as follows: President, Bill jordan, Vice-President, Merton Cooney, Secretary, Dido Overgardg and Treasurer, Lois Meyer. Other members are: Arlene Anderson, Betty Halmstad, Sandy Milligan, Gretchen Solie, Marion Miland, Karen Henderson, Dick Krueger, and Diane Gibbs. The Council has quite a list of accomplishments for the school year. They had charge of Homecoming events, the Red Cross Drive, the March of Dimes, and the calendar for concessions after basketball games. The Council also suggested policies for ab- sence and tardiness, made up the Award Day pro- gram, and selected lyceum numbers for the school year 52 and 55 . The installation of the members for the Council was the first of its kind. We hope for more of this. Con- gratulations to the Student Council. Q T f X X i Q 'Q S From Rowy D. Draeger, I. Webber, R. An: 5 The FHA, Future Homemakers of America, is a club which has existed for a number of years in this high school. With Miss Perman, as advisor, the first meeting was held in Sep- tember at which time initiation for new members was held. The officers were chosen as follows: President, Bev Heiang Vice-President, Pam jankoskig Secretary, Nancy Thorpe: Treasurer, Joan Svomag Historian, Lois Meyer, Editor, Bet- ty Halmstadg Parliamentarian, Delores Draeger. Special events were going on all the time throughout the year. Last October, about thirty-five FHA members traveled to Bloomer to take part in the District Rally. Stanley had sev- eral participants. Nancy Thorpe, who was Stanley's repre- sentative at the State Convention last year, gave a short re- port. FHA week in November was celebrated with displays, clean-up days, a good grooming day, and several other ac- tivities. Christmas vacation saw a group of girls attending a slumber party in the gym. A chili lunch was served and breakfast to the early risers. Some of the girls participated in the State Demonstration Contest which was held March 4 and the District March 11. The final program of the year consisted of awards to outstanding members, parents' re- ception, and style review. The 1952 State Convention will again be held in June at Green Lake. Much success to you in the future. F. F. A. derson, B. Heian, L. Meyer. The acceptance 'of additional duties and responsibilities is nearly always associated with growing up and maturity. This is true of organizations as well as people as they be- come of age. Our FFA shows a growing and progressive participation in group activities, limited in scope and size while as a young chapter to a gradual expansion to a more grown up type of group action program now that we are in our early twenties , Although the Stanley chapter has for a long time had successful young farm people emerge from its membership, these later years have included the greater number of such young farm leaders as part of its harvest. This indicates a pattern of progress which shows the gradual growing up of our FFA program of work. Given opportunity it is interesting to note how wisely the stu- dents with officers from this group act in such a completely grown up manner. The harvest is the excellent leadership found in agriculture through the FFA chapter. Front Rowg J. Aumann, L. Wagner, G. Keinholz, M. Hatfield, H. Gibbs, E. Gorka, O. Manier, L. Lockhart, D. VanErt. Our work has been varied and interesting to those par- taking. It includes poster layout, lettering, per- spective, plaster molding, painring figurines, portrait drawing, soap carving, and original designing of plates and shelves. With all this, we were acquainted in the course of our work, with pastels, charcoal, water paint, glaze, and lettering pens and brushes. It wasn't all work for we also had a lot of fun. We hope to see many new members with us next year who will also be able to enjoy the benefits the Art Club can give. Middle Row: G. Gruber, W. Wartolec, V. Krupa, J. Zenner. The Stanley Ca.mera Club was begun a year ago under the direction of Mr. Noel Cummins who has given much time, effort and material to make the project effective. There were many reasons for such an organi- zation. Students wanted to learn what a good picture was, they wanted to be able to handle a camera, and they needed to know how to develop filtns. This is a list of some of our projects: building a darkroom, and learning how to take and de- velop pictures. Some accomplishments are: the darkroom is built - - we have the following equipment - enlarger, printer, fihn tanks, pa- per supplies, developer, safety lights, squeegy plates, clock, and thermometer. Our officers are: President, Art Filipiakg Vice President, Jim Hoffstatter, and Secreta.ry-Treas- urer, Ted Koss. Back Rowg Noel Cummins, T. Koss, S. Plombon, D. Peterson. Organized as a co-curricular activity, the junior Rifle Club met with immediate success. Twen- ty-five students reported. They signed the club roll and thus became charter members. They have basketball, volleyball, bad- minton, shuffleboard, etc. These classes 'were held during the noon hour and from 1:00 to 2:00 in the afternoon. The programs are under the supervision of Mr. Miller and are played .in the high school gymnasium. The Basketball Championship was won by the Bluebirds under the leadership of Captain Gale Kienholz. Volleyball got under way immediately after basketball was over. Badminton started then, which concluded the Intra Mural schedule. This is the second year Stanley High School has had tumbling, but it is the first year in which a regular class has been devoted entirely to tumbling. The girls havebcertain tests they must pass in order to be admitted to the class. While basketball season is on, these girls will entertain the spectators, giving them an ex- hibition of what they are accomplishing. After basketball is over, their efforts lean toward presenting a spring program for the public. People can see what things their children are learning in physical education throughout the year. They can do it perfect now! INTRAMURAL CHEERLEADERS Lefl to rigbig Carole Smith, Lois Meyer, Gerri Gilclay, Shirley Soper and Peg Huls. The school is very proud of their cheerleaders who help to cheer the spectators and players when a basket- ball game or a football game isn't go- ing so well. There are A squad and jr. This was the start of a successful season for the Oriole squad. Most of the players had previous experience under their belts. After getting beat by Cornell, the localites took victories from Abbotsford, Mondovi, Neillsville, Withee, Owen, and McDonell, to end with a record of 9 wins ? losses. 'Perhaps the best game played by the Cagers was at Thorp when Stanley took a first quarter lead. The score seesawed back and forth until in the final minutes, Thorp stalled out the game to hold Stanley to a 30-31 score. Rixford led Stanley's .offense with 11 points as well as doing a fine job on defense. I Fran! Rou',' Louis Schumacher, Jerry Berseth, Duane Beauclot, jack Ragatz, Tod Henning. They chose for their theme, The Halls of Ivy , and used white and green for their decoration colors. TheY 9' The first part of May was selected as the best time for a prom. As the date drew near each committee worked fervently. The night finally came, and visitors beheld one of the loveliest proms ever held in the Stanley High School. 11 D yn, ---tnlllillly. Q 49 HOME COMING 1951 Stanley High School had one of its most eventful homecomings this year. The cel- ebration began one morning with every- body coming 'to school looking like tramps. Yes, it was the traditional hobo- day. For afternoon entertainment each class put on a skit in their hobo cos- tumes. The central theme was to beat Thorp. At night a huge bon-fire was blazing in Chapman Park. lt seemed as if the whole school body was present yelling at the top of their lungs led by the cheerleaders. The next day was filled with even more excitement, and 'everyone was decorating their respective floats for the parade, but alas it was raining. However, the parade went on with the greatest number of floats the high school has ever had. Ev- erything was rather damp, but the spirit. At night the game was played. The foot- ball players played their best game of the season that night, only to lose by a-touch- down. The day was climaxed by a dance after the game where the king and queen were crowned. 7 lJ4 ' ws' 1-Uv 1 -1-' I x I Q i 5 1 W Y i S f 5 S 1 1 5 3 l 11 w '1 J w sz , 4 1 VALENTINES DANCE .
