LELAND STANFORD JUNIOR HIGH LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA VOLUME IV JUNE, 1958 L, ,EMM -gr-7-T---f Lat. - -,,.-,n1- FAITH IN THE FUTURE 0F AMEBIQTA The youth of today represent the future of tomorrow. Students attending our schools are training now for the responsibilities they will assume later as adults and citizens. Their training grounds are our schools. At present, America is endangered by outside influences. Our way of life, our system of education is under strict observation and criticism. However, we, the future citizens of America are aware of the challenge, and confident that with the help of our parents, our schools, our communities we can meet that chal- lenge. This we must strive to attain. Therefore, we, the Leland Stanford Junior High class of 1958, dedicate this book to Faith in the Future of America. 1 Wlgg' zjimsbrf .af ' ' 'A f2Sfx::.g2ix::::f'i ff frzfriffifgiltff , fl 721 . 7 Mi' A , ,eQ?43',JG?ifi .5 -- ., ...:5. , 4 5 , -if r ' P is TZ , if Q - 'A f 6 . Stanford is peration of all parts of the staff to CUSTODIANS AND GARDENERS ORKERS CLASSES t 6'Tibi seris tibi metisn- as you sow, so shall you reap. This motto can be realized by all students in the future if they study in the fields of science, industry, mathematics, commerce, and the arts. From these five fields come the knowledge that can determine the future of the world, in peace, medicine, progress, economy, and all other things necessary for a progessive, good, and peaceful world. A country is only as good as its educational facilities. Study well! Educationis harvests are bountiful. Time may come, time may go, wars and tragedies may rob you of all material things, but nothing can take away your learning. It is with you always, yours to call on at any time. lf you become a scientist, a captain of industry, a writer, a teacher, a salesclerk, a farmer, or homemaker - never a day will go by that you can't use your accumulated knowledge and understanding acquired in school. You spend only thirteen years going to school, four more years if you go to college. This is a short part of your life spent in learning for a life time of living. -Beverly Waite gy NINTH GRADE SCHOLARSHIP SOCIETY NINTH GRADE V xg.. mg A '?'? f I V we ' 1 ' v ' 'I ' 5' Q- - I 3:53 ' ' - 1 ' '- - Z - L- V nw '- . if ' Q l V J.. - : K .K-S ..f'7' 5. These awards are given annually to the selected students of the graduating class who have shown the highest qualities of leadership, citizenship, and scholarship, and for their services to the school in all fields. The ninth graders are chosen by both the faculty and the administrators of the school. From the entire graduating class only eighty students were eligible, and of these eighty, six were finally selected. The awards are the Daughters of the American Revolution award, the American Legion awards, and the Lion's Club awards. The D.A. R. award is given to the most outstanding girl in all fields. The American Legion awards are presented to one girl on the basis of sportsmanship, leadership, and citizenship. Three students, either boy or girl, qualify with outstanding records to be recipients of the Li0n,s Club awards. D. A. R. ..... ..,....... Now, in l958, who are the people that will keep America great? They are the students of today l Faith in today,s youth means faith in the future of America. The minds and morals of todayis youth are constructed by their activities: their right to govern themselvesg to have their ow11 representative govern- ment on the school campus. The citizens of tomorrow gain knowledge and experience today by promoting club activities. Our freedom to congregate promotes the exchange of ideas and the ability to get along with other people. Today's youth and their activities are just as important as the future of America. ln fact, they are, in a sense, the same thing: youth, activities, and the future of America. -Pam Schroeder K f ., i 1- A T r : ': 17 M3?l2'1, X7 ' 2 z I ' I - a ' QC:-Y , A AA Q . They have worked diligently to gain their good reputation. This year, during the annual Solo and Ensemble Festival, the many talented students in the instrumental department, showed their ability with their out- standing performances. Earlier in the year, 42 members of the orchestra and ,band together were chosen to represent Stanford in the All-City Junior High Orchestra. The choral department participated in their festival and earned top honors with their singing. This year has been truly one of the most prosperous for our music depart- ments. They have contributed much in the way of good music to our student body and other appreciative listeners. 'Rw- fZ. 'W ? M' A i 'iii-f T N is iss-Q' sf. It may he seen in the man who runs the mile in 3:57, or the player who makes the eighty yard run down an opponent-strewn field for the crucial six points. Athletics build both body and mind. It plays an important part in the formation of qualities and characteristics which make each student into a participating, conscientious citizen. ln sports, leadership is encour- aged, teamwork is perfected, fair play is employed, and strong, healthy hodies are strengthened and formed. if ln school, students meet on the athletic fields to learn basic principles of good living and democracy which will help to prepare them to become the future citizens of tomorrow. Faith in the well-trained, athletic, healthy youth of today is faith wisely placed in the future of America. -Peter Cooey INTER-SCHOOL TEAMS FOOTBALL BASKETBALL GYMNASTICS TRACK L PN, F5 fn A C451 L 1 , V L . . ,W 'B 53 FOOTBALL BASKETBALL 7th K-24 9th B-5 FOOTBALL 8th W-44 FOOTBALL 9th S-36 9?
