“As freshmen we entered Stanford High School, and guided by an insatiable desire to see and learn all that was thrust before us, trudged willingly in the footsteps of those who had proceeded us, curious as to what we would meet, and determined to conquer it. As sophomores, settled in our routine, we cast piteous eyes at unwary freshmen and timidly contemplated our new found importance. As our junior year began and progressed we prepared ourselves for the decision-making world of adulthood, as we conceded our significance as the junior class. Now, in 1973, as we once again close the door behind us, in order that we may open one leading to a world where we must decide to falter and fail, or persevere and succeed, it is time to pause and think: Am I ready to cross the Bridge? Do I know myself well enough to venture out alone'' What contribution shall I make to the world? In reply we think back over the last four years at Stanford High, and we then are able to justly answer the questions that assail us. To you the remaining students, we say, take Her in a grasp of determination from which she cannot wrench herself. Squeeze from her every ounce of knowledge and philosophy she contains, wisely using her resources as guideposts as you travel through life. And when the days of carefree youth become a tender past, and it is YOU who must make your stand in this world, make the most of her gifts to you. With the knowledge she has surrendered meet the challenge of life head-on, always ready to learn, always reaching for impossible goals, but never, never yielding. Students of Stanford High School, the 1973 WILDCAT is dedicated to each of you, in hopes that you will forever endeavor to make yourselves better people of the world, and thus make this world a better place in which to live.
