DEDICATION Mrs. Holtzclaw, though your witty remarks and comical expressions amuse us all. the encouraging smile on your face each morning and the wonderful co-operative attitude it beams iforth has influenced us the most. We Seniors of 57 want to express our deep appreciation for the wonderful example your life has been to us. Mrs. Owens, we know you have had many responsibilities out side of school these past few years but have always found time to patiently guide your Seniors through their difficulties. We are grateful to you for taking our problems so at heart and yet finding time to join in our fun and laughter. We truly appreciate your sincere helpfulness and know that Stanford High would never be quite the same without your dynamic personality. Hoping we may someday be worthy of your sincere interest and loyal friendship, we, the Senior class of ’57 are proud and happy to dedicate this issue of the Memo to you, Mrs. J. B. Q(Jwi$6 HISTORY Our stroll through the jungle is suddenly interrupted by weird cries coming from behind a grove of trees. We amble some distance off the path and find a large hut where 65 kittens are enrolled in the first grade of 1945. We are amazed to find them working on their first assignment, learning “Cheer Cheer for Old Stanford High.” A year later we find that a new kitten with very powerful legs has joined the class. Billy Withers leaped all the way over first grade Just to be with us. Helen Buchanan from Hubble made the second addition that year. In the fourth grade, “Cats” Clero and Edward Brown came from Hubble to give Mother Denham two more problems. In the fifth grade, we lost several felines but gained Arvetta Gooch, Fanalee RaitJ and Anna Lee Gover from Crab Orchard; Patsy Lawson from Hubble and Wanda Barrett from the jungle of Churchill. Tennessee. Miss Kitty Jones was the mother of our den. We lost several of our classmates in the sixth grade. Among them were: An C. Crawford, Sue Noe and Jane Clayton and Mary Joe Morrow, who leaped over to the seventh grade. That same year Ray Hurst skipped the fifth to join us, and Elaine Patterson came from Kings Mountain to be with us also. Our mother cat. Miss Lucille Dudderar was simply crazy about us, or was it because we drove her that way? The next year we leaped into the seventh grade along with a newcomer. Boyd Gilliam. In the eighth grade, we had three “real cool” cats to join us: Charles Scott from Science Hill; Shelby Naylor from Hustonville, and Paul Napier from Highland. We also lost a few. As Freshmen, we became fullfledged Wildcats. Bobby Kirkpatrick and Betty Rod us joined us in giving Mr. Ball a rough year. As Sophomores, the next year, we were a bit more tame and left Mr. Elliott fewer scars to remember us by. Almost to the top, we as Juniors began living it up.” Nellie Douglas, Rose Brumett and New land Hester added to our enjoyment. On September 3, 1956, we enrolled as a class of twenty-nine energetic seniors. Now we Wildcats are almost through the jungle and are prepared to confront anything which might challenge us in this vast civilization of ours. PROPHECY While dozing in the last period study hall one hot September evening, I had a bird's eye view of the '57 Stanford Seniors ten years from now. I shall try as best I can to reveal what I saw in that brief period. Margaret Attwood finally achieved her goal of becoming a teacher. She is teaching at Stanford High School. Fanlee Ball has now completed her nursing training and is still trying to get in the Pie K faternity. Wanda Barrett is now owner of the Davis Drive-in. Russell Daugherty and Judy have just settled down in McKinney where Russell owns his grocery store. He is also selling light bulbs. Nellie Douglas is now the champion wrestler of the world. It is thought that she strangles her opponents, but of course there’s no proof. Barbara Frisbie has succeeded in reaching her goal of becoming the world’s most famous lady hobo. Boyd Gilliam is now married and raising a football team. It's gening quite crowded in the apartment he occupies at the Leedy home. Arvetta Gooch has just finished business school and is an employee of the First National Bank in London, England. Donald Hester just finished his last year of high school and is still working at the L G. A. Newland Hester has received his dealership to sell toy tractors. He hasn’t changed a bit. Wilma Hoskins was always too quiet in schooL but now she has been acclaimed the world’s loudest hog caller. Raymond Hurst is now working and can afford to ride in his own pink convertible. Eddie Kidd is married and now raising a bunch of little “Kids. Bobby Kirkpatrick is still working at the Kroger Store where he recently got a Si raise. Patsy Lawson is now captain in the Marine Corps and is stationed at North Pole. Paul Napier is also in Texas and has his ranch right next to Ed. Brown. Paul is rearing children (12) to be exact. Shelby Naylor is the first farmer in the United States to ever raise a successful crop of grub worms. Elaine Patterson finally got her driver’s license and is now the queen of Hot Rod Drivers in New Orleans. Betty Rhodus is now making her students walk the chalk line in her English class. Charles Scott now has a joint partnership in the Hubble Pie Baking Company. Billy Withers has just solved the problem of drinking condensed ice water, but in the experiment he reduced his body weight to 39 pounds. The sweetest thing this side of heaven. Is this brand new Memo of '57. We're all quite proud of it because. It wasn't brought by Santa Claus. Every word on every line Shows much work and lots of time. Every picture clear and bright Tells of sleep we missed at night. Prints we lost but finally found Remind us of times Mrs. Owens unwound.
