dedication Now at the turning point of our lives, we the Graduating Class of 1955 pause to pay respects to you, our parents who have so unselfishly given your time, love, and money so that we might reach this goal. We realize that our debt to you is great and we’d like to express a portion of our deep gratitude by dedicating to you our MEMO of 1955. Since this is the fiftieth anniversary of Stanford High School, we should like to pay tribute to Hubert Carpenter and Jim Bob Newland, who were die only graduates of the class of 1905. This was the first graduating class of Stanford High School--just 50 years ago. The Stanford Graded School district was organized in March 1901 after the election of five trustees, as they were called in those days. There was quite a bit of opposition to the public school in the beginning, but gradually the resistance died. A fire destroyed the school building in 1902 and in its place was erected the present building which houses most of the lower grades. Hubert Carpenter is the son of the late Dr. J. G. Carpenter, a prominent physician who practiced here for many years. Mr. Carpenter is an insurance executive in Louisville at present. Jim Bob Newland is the son of T. D. Newland who was a merchant in Stanford for many years. Mr. Newland now lives in Fort Worth, Texas and is now retired. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baugh Mr. and Mrs. W. Henry Baughman Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Baxter Mr. and Mrs. John F. Braun Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Camenisch Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Elkins Dr. and Mrs. Howard I. Frisbie Mr. and Mrs. James M. Gilbert Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gooch Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Gooch Mr. and Mrs. Joe S. Grimes Mr. and Mrs. James Harris Mr. and Mrs. Shelton Hooker Mr. and Mrs. Manless Lasure Mr. and Mrs. George Lawrence Mr. and Mrs. Hobert Long Mr. and Mrs. Fred McQueary Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Glen Mick Mr. and Mrs. Fred Murphy Mr. and Mrs. Ronal Napier Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Oster Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Owens Mr. and Mrs. Ira Patterson Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Plummer Mr. and Mrs. Rowan Saufley Mr. and Mrs. William F. Snow Mr. and Mrs. William H. Yantis
