Histv o| ei ass 0| 95 In September, 19 1, fifteen of the present class of 1951 strolled up to Mrs. Maurice Murphy’s first grade room. Wide-eyed and rosy cheeked, they were: Sue Frances Boone, John Thomas Dunaway, LoAnn Fields, Rick Grimes, Kenneth Hume, Ann Abell, Pettus Jackson, Jimmy McCormack, Vera Morgan, Jack Newsom, Harvey Dean Reynolds, Jane Ann Perkins, Buddy Sanders, Lois Turpin, Wade Vaught, and Earl Porter Withers. Under Mrs. Rochester in the second grade, John Lay came from Liberty to be our class redhead. Mrs. Settle taught in the third grade where Tippy Noe joined our ranks. Three were picked up in the fourth grade with Miss Denham teaching. They were; Lou Jean Leedy, Mary Ann Noe, and Dick Dunn. Ronnie Cox straggled in from Lancaster in the fifth grade to make Miss Jones class a little livelier. Minerva Pence paraded in from Hubble in the sixth grade to make the total of the class of 51 then to be 22. Miss Dudderar taught us that year. We picked up no new pupils in the seventh grade, but with Miss Nell Davis teaching, we had fun. The eighth grade proved to be more prolific than the preceeding two. Emily Bell, Juanita Sowers, and Ruby Young marched up and put their names on our class roll. Emily and Juanita came from Hubble and Ruby came from Pine Grove. Mrs. Joe T. Embry was our home room teacher that year. Nope, no new classmates in the freshmen year. Under Mrs. Holtzclaw, we managed to go about our business in fine fashion though. Miss Ruth Davis’ first year at SHS will stay clear in her mind I’m sure, since our class was her first home room. About the last six weeks of that year, a little blonde came from Lafayette in Fayette County to find a place also in our little class, Her name was Donna Short. Then we were juniors! Bill Blanton, Tinsley Ball, Jr., and John Earl Gooch came in from Goshen to fill out our class roll to a total of 29. Mr. James Durham was our class sponsor and we sure liked him. Now, our year. We’re seniors. To bring our total number to 30, Daisy Brown came from the Crab Orchard School. Mrs. John Cash was our Sponsor and we couldn’t have found anywhere a better, sweeter, more co-operative person than she was during our entire senior year. Well, that’s about all of our history, but we have a great future to look forward to. Hast Will Civic) 'Testament We the graduating class of 51 After years of sorrow mixed with fun As the schoolhouse fades from view We have some things to leave with you: To the Jolly Juniors we leave behind Our capability to enrich our mind Down in the lunchroom they will see The senior table where we laughed with glee. To the sophomore class is left behind Our friendship, love, and ways so kind. To the freshmen who sure will need it We leave advice; we hope they’ll heed it. To dear ole SHS we will All our test papers and our quill. Ruby Young leaves her ability to catch the boys (especially Ronnie) to Birdie Dell. Juanita Sowers leaves her dimpled smile to Eula Jones, and Sue Frances Boone leaves her ability to be seen and not heard to Mary Jo Anderson. Jane Ann Perkins decided to leave her muscles to Miss Ruth Davis so she could handle her sophomore boys. “Zombie leaves his laziness to Bob Noe. Slow down. Bob! ! To Carroll Brent, John Earl Gooch leaves his bashful ways. To the seniors of 51- 52 Kenneth leaves his brother T. J. Emily Bell leaves her majorette ability to the next girl lucky enough to be elected. Donna Short leaves her poetic ability to Billy Mac who has always wanted to be able to quote Shakespeare. HA! Minerva Pence leaves her ability to attract men to Betty Watkins who seems to be waiting for the right one to come along. LoAnn wills her managing ability to Donnie Whitehouse. Buddy leaves his ability to tell wild tales so effectively to Eddie Robinson. Lois Turpin leaves her curly hair and shy ways to Paul Taylor who could use a little of both, and Dick Dunn leaves his little feet and big ways to Hatch Baughman, who we hope will put them to good use. Ronnie Cox wills his ability to make all the girls swoon to Briar Clark. Mary Ann Noe leaves her silly little giggle to Lula Gay Griffin. Jack Newsom leaves his fashionable haircut to any boy who is foolish enough to get one like it. Daisy is leaving to Willa Lee Banks her ability to flatter the boys and bum chewing gum. Rick Grimes leaves his ability to be junior and senior class president to anyone. Harvey Dean leaves his English notebooks to Miss Grimes. “Big Jim leaves his football playing ability and 100 pounds to Jimmy Baxter. John Lay, after crying because he couldn’t take it with him, decided to leave his red hair and freckles to “Kayo.” Tippy Noe leaves Jane E. Harris her ability to cut up in study hall. Wade Vaught leaves his waves to Tea Weaver, and a lock or two of his hair, too, since Tea’s is so short. Lou Jean leaves her typing ability to Susan Beazley. Earl Porter Withers needs every trait he has, so we decided if he just left, he would satisfy everybody. Ann Abell leaves Wanda Rae the ability to pass Geometry and Physics. Junior Ball leaves his singing ability to Tommy Hester. Class P o Well, here we are in 1961 and from the size of Lois Turpin’s family, we believe “Cheaper By The Dozen” must be her motto. Dick Dunn and Jack Newsom are coaching, and neither of them can understand why boys are always breaking training. Mary Ann Noe and Minerva Pence, are in the nursing profession. Anyone feel sick?????? Daisy Brown has become a very successful career woman. Speaking of career women, LoAnn Fields has just announced her candidacy for president of the U. S. in 1961. In case anyone feels they need a psychiatrist, just go see Dr. Harvey Reynolds. Jim McCormack is sitting back taking it easy while he watches the nickels roll in. Ronnie Cox is the new manager of Krogers, while John Lay is making history on his record-breaking motorcycle. (Record for breaking the most bones.) Vera Morgan has won the best actress award of 1961 while little Ruby Young has been named as the best actress ever to appear on “Inner Sanctum. ’ Quiet but busy Wade Vaught is living in Florida, retired and driving a Cadillac. “Pot” Withers has invented another labor-saving device, and John Earl Gooch has produced a tobacco plant that will grow ready-made cigarettes. Lou Jean has at last said “yes ' and there’s to be a wedding in June. Mrs. Jackson is settled in Versailles with Albert and ten little Jacksons. Tippy Noe had trouble deciding between marriage and a career but chose matrimony. Tinsley Ball is a second Billy Sunday. Sue Boone, having decided she liked Stanford, has been working in her father’s store waiting for the right man to come along. Juanita Sowers decided a long time ago to settle down, so now she is trying to be a good wife for ?? ? Kenneth Hume now owns the world’s largest fishing camp. Emily Bell, very happily married to Buddy, has a full time job washing milk bottles, and Buddy gets up at 4:30 to deliver the milk. What a life! ! John Thomas Dunaway now owns his own theatre and of course he is sending passes to all his old classmates. Jane Ann Perkins just can’t decide which proposal to accept. Eeny, meeny, miny, mo. We have just found out that Donna Short has been appointed Poet Laureate of Kentucky for 1961. Rick Grimes, the world-famous architect, is now drawing up the plans for a new Stanford High School since it was “accidentally” destroyed by the chemistry class.
