fooTBALL ' , 55 f'S3f3E1,,54zafSf134veQ LQ ' If WIESYUSI 'v5f53 2231 have 21 ' f I an if: p L TF, 3 1 Q, 33 seal 4 Stanford's football team of l9h9 upset the dope bucket and completely sur prised the whole town by coming up with the best season of any Stanford Foot ball team since 1935 The Cats, opening their season with the highly favored Danville Admirals lost 20 13, after leading by a touchdown with 5 minutes to go After losing to Danville, but winning a moral victory, the team journeyed to Winchester and handed the Shawnees their first defeat for many a year from a Stanford team, the score 15 13 The next week end the Carlisle Musketeers invaded the Cat's home field and handed them their worst defeat of tne year, by a score of 90-7 Suffering from inguries and in a slump, the Cats took it on the chin the following Fri day, 6 O, by a hard charging Harrodsburg eleven After losing two straights, the Cats came back with their old fight and pep and won their next two games, the first by a 19-7 victory over Anderson County, and the Second by a 12-6 vic- tory over Georgetown. It was Stanford's turn once more to taste defeat as they lost their third game of the year by one touchdown, to the Nicholasville Spi- ders, by a 7-O count. On October 28, the Cats evened their record at a M and h, by giving their old rivals, the Lancaster Green Devils, their worst defeat in history by a Stanford football team. The game which was supposed to be a toss-up was turned into a 26-O rout, the Cats scoring whenever they wished. This ended a success- ful season, and gave the Cats a place in the A division of the Central Ken- tucky Conference. 16
