TABLE OF CONTENTS Fall 4 Spring 49 JIGSAW A complex puzzle is life, each day brings a new piece. And although some fit better than others they all produce a unique picture, beautiful in its own wonderful way. Some search endlessly for a missing shape ... while others fill each void, content with what they’ve found. SPIRIT WEEK When someone visits our school during Spirit Week they might seem a little puzzled at what they see, they might even think we have a few pieces missing. Spirit week is a part of our Homecoming tradition that everyone enjoys. There was pajama day, nerd day, heavy metal hawaiian day, masquerade day, and mourning day. There was also a powder puff football game, boys volleyball tournament, and the traditional bonfire. The pieces of this puzzle include 1) the burning of the T 2) Our beloved bonfire 3) the Tigers battle Wasco County, 4) Let's get pumped at the pep rally, 5) powder puff football, 6) Marcy Madigan, Michelle Burns, Mr. Jorgenson, Scott Clarke Jane Drtina in Heavy Metal goes to Hawaii , 7) Seniors relaxing at noon, 8) Catch 'em Troy Clark 9) powder puff cheerleaders, Shawn Martuscelli, Howard Wagoner, Scott Wells, Jason Clark, Will Lemmon, and Ron Cox, 10) We've got spirit, how 'bout you? FALL In the fall everyone is looking forward to returning to school and seeing all of their friends again. They may not miss the books but they do enjoy participating in the activities. Some of these events include home football and volleyball games. Other students would rather take part in such things as the Sadie Hawkins and Homecoming dances, and the Frosh slave auction. The message is caring, the reason is love and the group is Natural Helpers. This spring, a group of students from Mac High visited Stanfield H.S. to show a message of love. The message caught on and with the help of the Mac High group, a Natural Helpers group was born at S.H.S. Natural Helpers is a peer support group established for the purpose of helping teenagers cope with many of the problems that they are faced with today. The members of the group have received instruction about how to be a good listener, what agencies are available if more help is needed, and how to help students to work out their problems. 1) Mac High students talk about the different masks people wear 2) A Natural Helpers planning meeting. 3) The Natural Helpers group: Tanna Alford, Sherra Alford, Jennifer Hummell, Mike Carpenter, Fred Butcher, Blaine Butcher, Mrs. Hepworth, Toni Miller, Dusty Grogan, Phillip Marcum, Glen Gordon, (Bottom) Ila Hascall, Mrs. Punches, Heather Raines and Dawn Goodrich. 32 ee TIGER BASKETBALL l N-l Happy Notion Originals cHafifiij czAfotioni NORM CLARK RETAIL ■ CUSTOM ■ REMOUNTING ■ BLACK HILLS GOLD ■ 894 s HIGHWAY 395 HERMISTON PLAZA. It is a time when some of the students that are walking our halls every day can share their hidden talents with the community. Outstanding Achievements To talk about outstanding achievements without talking about Rodeo is like ordering lemonade without ice. Stanfield High School homes some of the finest young cowboys in the nation. Senior Ward Bertsch (right), was the 1985 Oregon High School State Champion in the calf roping. He went on to compete in the national finals for the second time and after the first go round he lead the field. He was still in the top 20 after 10 performances with a shot at the title. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, he drew a bad calf for his last ride and was eliminated. This was 'Tiny's second time at the national finals and is likely to repeat again this summer. Chuck Biggerstaff is another outstanding cowboy that prefers a bovine of larger stature. He rides bulls (left), and does a darn good job at it too. Chuck won the Oregon State Rookie of the Year in 1985 and took 4th in the state in the bull riding compete-tion. He too participated in the national finals and placed 14th in the nation. Our hats are off to these two young men who take pride in a sport that is so much a part of our countries heritage. 69 GOTCHA GOTCHA GO JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM As the seniors approach their final days of school at Stanfield, it is a time of celebration and thanksgiving. 1) The nineteen eighty six prom was a night to remember.
