Text from Pages 1 - 96 of the 1983 volume:

The hit song, “The Eye of the Tiger,” by Survivor, inspired the name of our 1982-83 yearbook, The Eye. The Tiger Eye has focused on important happenings of all calibers. We at SHS welcome a new principal, Glenn Walker, and four new staff members, Mike Carpenter, Dorinda Rife, Barry Reifel, and Kelly Williams. The SHS sports programs have had a building year. Nonetheless, the fall of '82 saw the girls varsity volleyball team advance to the district tournament. Nationally, the St. Louis Cardinals captured the World Series in seven games, the NFL had a players strike, and the Redskins beat the Dolphins in the Super Bowl. Looking again at the Stanfield High School scene, the Spirit Committee did their job well, providing us with much-needed spirit and school pride, especially on their dress-up days. During the 82-83 school year, the local senior citizens built a community building for which they held many fund-raisers. We have seen the ups and downs of Reagonomics — inflation is down, but unemployment is up. The U.S. space shuttle the Columbia proved itself by soaring into space, and a peace settlement in the Middle East became a reality. In the spring of 83, the Alumax aluminum plant announced it would not be coming to the Hermiston area. Walter Mondale, former Vice President under Jimmy Carter, announced his candidacy of the Presidency in 1984, while Ted Kennedy withdrew from the race. Both are Democrats. And so, “the eye” of our tiger looks back on the 1982-83 year at SHS with pride. We have risen up to the challenge of high school life, and we can be proud of what we have accomplished at Stanfield High School.TABLE OF CONTENTS Administration And Faculty Organizations Seniors Page CD Is- 00Underclasses Sports School Life AdvertisementsMr. Carpenter Counselor Mrs. Hepworth Home Economics Coach Kligel Football Basketball Mr. Derbyshire Science Mrs. Hull Resource Room Mr. Kramer P.E.
