PROPHECY CONT It’s cloudy, but no, now I see. I see Angie Jenkins. She wanted to go into physical therapy, but who would have thought rehabilitating gorillas was her style? Laurie Longhorn’s future is quite an interesting one. She in now known as Betsy Bigear and has joined the circus as the fat lady. She likes it really well and is “gainin’’ interest in her job. Janice Luken’s future has brought her from ravioli fan to raviole fanatic. She is a scientist who is working on new ways to use ravioli. Last year she won a Novel Prize for her ravioli perfume. It didn’t go over too well, but Janice liked it. Now coming into view is Trina Moore. She never was too interested in school, but she always had an interest in growing plants. This hobby led her into her present job in the forestry. She has set up housekeeping in the fire watch tower and enjoys it very much. As the glass clears, I see Theresa Nieland, who all through high school, had high hopes. She always wanted to be Miss America and take that victorious sprint down the walkway. She put her hopes to work and made it! Now I clearly see Todd Pfel. Just guess what he’s doing now. He has gone into body building, opened his own health spa, and has won medals for his fabulous physique. As Elizabeth Pollick’s future clears, I see the girl who once had dreams of going into law. Her dreams were fulfilled when she got a job working as a meter maid on Main Street in Hermiston. The crystal ball is tiring, but I can clearly see Steve Pratt, the all American nice guy who has now gone country. He has his own show in Nashville and is a regular guest star on Hee Haw. Waving my hand again I see Shane Reed, the high schooler who always enjoyed motorcycles. He is using his experiences in biking to make 3 wheelers for old people. Good going, Shane. The glass is foggy, but I see Mike Schwarz, who was to inherit his father’s shop. But Mike had different plans. He opened Mikie’s Beauty Salon in Hermiston and is doing quite well. Now I see Tonya Thomas, who was really great at track in high school because of her strong legs. She did some advertizing on T.V. for Hanes pantyhose, later went into modeling, and now has her legs insured for four billion dollars. The glass is very tired and cloudy, but I faintly see Kim Wallis, who pretty well knew what she wanted to do when she was in high school. She set up housekeeping at an early age and is now using her experiences to teach the S.H.S. home ec. classes. What a credit to our school. The crystal ball is fading. It has given us a few glimpses into the future and some pieces of the past. It is becoming darker and growing much fainter. I am losing sight. That is all the crystal ball has to tell us. It hasn’t really said, but somehow I know that things will work out for the “Graduating Class of 1980.” 21

SENIOR PROPHECY Madame Zorba’s Look Into The Future Come on in. I’m Madame Zorba and I’m looking into my crystal ball to see what the class of “80” will be doing in the year 2000. The future is fogged, but I see it coming into view. The figure that is forming seems to be, could it be Bill Abney? Yes, it is! He once had high hopes of becoming a carpenter. Now he is doing wood-working all right, he is involved in giving plastic surgery to trees. Clouded but now coming into view is Lori Alger. I see her now as a renown world traveler and member of the American Embassy in Germany. She always enjoyed sports and is now on the German-American all star basketball team. As the ball clears I see Larry Baros, who always thought of himself as the heart throb of Stanfield High. He went from heart throb to heart breaker when he became Father Baros and went into the priesthood. What a shock, Larry. Everyone thought of Lisa Brown as the nice girl of Stanfield High, but you should see her now. She’s an official member of the “Hells Angels,” and she is thinking of taking over the world. Now I clearly see Adila Burchett who was always a good student in high school. She always liked cooking, and it earned her world-wide fame when she invented a taco-flavored I.V. Waving my hand over the crystal ball again, I see Ronda Crowell who always liked animals. She is now a pet shop owner. It all started when she married. She had a bird, 3 dogs, and a cat. So far she has added 4 piranhas, 3 monkeys, a rat, and 12 rabbits. The franchise is growing. As the glass clears I see Monte Ellis, the high school jock. He is out of a job, poor Monte. Athletes were replaced by computers. He is now sole owner and operator of a dress shop in L.A. Now I see Lee Ettinger coming into view. She has decided to go into psychiatry and use her experiences in sorting out problems. She gives everyone a gentle word and encourages them. Tonya Hoover is coming clearly into sight. She was married right out of high school and became a mother. She now has a troop of 12 kids, is President of the Stanfield PTA, Mother’s Club Union, and has half ownership in Gerber’s Baby Food Co. As the crystal ball clears again, I see Bill Howard, who surprised everybody by becoming famous. This feat was accomplished when he started eating Wheaties and became the first person to swim the length of the Nile River. Looking into Mike Hughes’ futue I see the guy who was always a businessman and who decided to uphold America and open up a suspender factory. He is doing quite well and has really made a bundle. In Dwayne Huxoll’s future he is a professional student who has entered Harvard for the 6th time. He is now teaching the professors. What, I don’t know. 20
