The main event for the society this year was the trip to the Shakespearean Festival with the college writing class (pictures on next pg.). To raise money for the trip they sold pens, candy bars, posters, and stuffed animals. They also showed two movies and had a cake raffle. Eight members attended the plays accompanied by Mrs. Marlow, advisor for the Honor Society, and Mr. Nelson, the college writing instructor. The plays they saw were Jean Anhouih’s Ring Round the Moon and Shakespeare’s Corio-lanus. Some of the highlights of the trip were wearing bunny ears and McDonald Land bibs, taking a backstage tour, going to historic Jacksonville, and visiting Crater Lake. HONOR SOCIETY TRIP TO ASHLAND AWARDS BANQUET Monte Ellis and Tonya Thomas receive the Dukek Senior Athletes of the Year Trophy. Lori Alger receives the choir award. CLASS COLORS Blue and Gold CLASS FLOWER Red Rose 18 William Oliver Abney Lori Helena Alger Ronda Jean Crowell Monte Ray Ellis Elisa Kay Brown Adila Elizabeth Burchett SENIOR PROPHECY Madame Zorba’s Look Into The Future Come on in. I’m Madame Zorba and I’m looking into my crystal ball to see what the class of “80” will be doing in the year 2000. The future is fogged, but I see it coming into view. The figure that is forming seems to be, could it be Bill Abney? Yes, it is! He once had high hopes of becoming a carpenter. Now he is doing wood-working all right, he is involved in giving plastic surgery to trees. Clouded but now coming into view is Lori Alger. I see her now as a renown world traveler and member of the American Embassy in Germany. She always enjoyed sports and is now on the German-American all star basketball team. As the ball clears I see Larry Baros, who always thought of himself as the heart throb of Stanfield High. He went from heart throb to heart breaker when he became Father Baros and went into the priesthood. What a shock, Larry. Everyone thought of Lisa Brown as the nice girl of Stanfield High, but you should see her now. She’s an official member of the “Hells Angels,” and she is thinking of taking over the world. Now I clearly see Adila Burchett who was always a good student in high school. She always liked cooking, and it earned her world-wide fame when she invented a taco-flavored I.V. Waving my hand over the crystal ball again, I see Ronda Crowell who always liked animals. She is now a pet shop owner. It all started when she married. She had a bird, 3 dogs, and a cat. So far she has added 4 piranhas, 3 monkeys, a rat, and 12 rabbits. The franchise is growing. As the glass clears I see Monte Ellis, the high school jock. He is out of a job, poor Monte. Athletes were replaced by computers. He is now sole owner and operator of a dress shop in L.A. Now I see Lee Ettinger coming into view. She has decided to go into psychiatry and use her experiences in sorting out problems. She gives everyone a gentle word and encourages them. Tonya Hoover is coming clearly into sight. She was married right out of high school and became a mother. She now has a troop of 12 kids, is President of the Stanfield PTA, Mother’s Club Union, and has half ownership in Gerber’s Baby Food Co. As the crystal ball clears again, I see Bill Howard, who surprised everybody by becoming famous. This feat was accomplished when he started eating Wheaties and became the first person to swim the length of the Nile River. Looking into Mike Hughes’ futue I see the guy who was always a businessman and who decided to uphold America and open up a suspender factory. He is doing quite well and has really made a bundle. In Dwayne Huxoll’s future he is a professional student who has entered Harvard for the 6th time. He is now teaching the professors. What, I don’t know. 20 PROPHECY CONT It’s cloudy, but no, now I see. I see Angie Jenkins. She wanted to go into physical therapy, but who would have thought rehabilitating gorillas was her style? Laurie Longhorn’s future is quite an interesting one. She in now known as Betsy Bigear and has joined the circus as the fat lady. She likes it really well and is “gainin’’ interest in her job. Janice Luken’s future has brought her from ravioli fan to raviole fanatic. She is a scientist who is working on new ways to use ravioli. Last year she won a Novel Prize for her ravioli perfume. It didn’t go over too well, but Janice liked it. Now coming into view is Trina Moore. She never was too interested in school, but she always had an interest in growing plants. This hobby led her into her present job in the forestry. She has set up housekeeping in the fire watch tower and enjoys it very much. As the glass clears, I see Theresa Nieland, who all through high school, had high hopes. She always wanted to be Miss America and take that victorious sprint down the walkway. She put her hopes to work and made it! Now I clearly see Todd Pfel. Just guess what he’s doing now. He has gone into body building, opened his own health spa, and has won medals for his fabulous physique. As Elizabeth Pollick’s future clears, I see the girl who once had dreams of going into law. Her dreams were fulfilled when she got a job working as a meter maid on Main Street in Hermiston. The crystal ball is tiring, but I can clearly see Steve Pratt, the all American nice guy who has now gone country. He has his own show in Nashville and is a regular guest star on Hee Haw. Waving my hand again I see Shane Reed, the high schooler who always enjoyed motorcycles. He is using his experiences in biking to make 3 wheelers for old people. Good going, Shane. The glass is foggy, but I see Mike Schwarz, who was to inherit his father’s shop. But Mike had different plans. He opened Mikie’s Beauty Salon in Hermiston and is doing quite well. Now I see Tonya Thomas, who was really great at track in high school because of her strong legs. She did some advertizing on T.V. for Hanes pantyhose, later went into modeling, and now has her legs insured for four billion dollars. The glass is very tired and cloudy, but I faintly see Kim Wallis, who pretty well knew what she wanted to do when she was in high school. She set up housekeeping at an early age and is now using her experiences to teach the S.H.S. home ec. classes. What a credit to our school. The crystal ball is fading. It has given us a few glimpses into the future and some pieces of the past. It is becoming darker and growing much fainter. I am losing sight. That is all the crystal ball has to tell us. It hasn’t really said, but somehow I know that things will work out for the “Graduating Class of 1980.” 21 Laurie Ann Longhorn Janice Lee Lukens 23 Dwavne Huxoll Angela Mae Jenkins 24 Angie Jenkins Janice Lukens Dwayne Huxoll Larry Baros 25 Tod LeRoy Pfel Elizabeth Jean Pollick Trina Louise Moore Theresa Lynn Nieland Tonya Kay Thomas Michael A. Redsides in the Homecoming game. Leading at half time 13 to 7, the Tigers maintained their lead to win by the score of 20 to 12. The game ended the season with the Tigers undefeated in all home games and assured a spot in the district playoffs. Dwayne gains yardage for the team. Dwayne goes for winning touchdown. General bull session HOME COMING 31 THE ROAD NOT TAKEN 1 4$ 4 Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry 1 could not travel both nd be one traveler, long I stood nd looked down one as far as 1 could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, 1 doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference. 32 Albert Austin Kathleen tiohms Wade Bertsch Victor Baros Christopher Cearns Ryan Collinsworth Shelley Campbell Deborah Collinsworth Della Coombes Lorena Florence Charles Dyer CLASS William Hoffnagle Laura Gibson Damon Horn Carolyn Huxoll Rose Hunter Vickie McCutchen Rosetta Markham Jennie Marcum David Marsing Reta Powney Sheila Moore Kelly Morgan Larry Phillips Donna Terry Carrie Smith Kris Schuening Camiel Wallaert Joy Wallace Richard Dll srrti Not Pictured Melody Buck Rol ert Florence Nadine Wheeler Kelly Wallis rol Baumgartner Guadalupe ( astro William ( earns Teresa Cooper David Dyer Dallas Ktlinger Jacqueline Stamate Ronald Stewart Susan Terry Patricia Wallace Not pictured: Bob Conner Thomas Farler Phillip Williams CLASS OF 1983 Jennifer Abney Leah Backen Stacey Campbell Douglas Crowell Victor Caputo Cynthia Cunha Tina Cearns Candice Challis Sharon Daniels Claire Drtina 40 Troy Johnson Patricia Jordan Mamie Lackey Matthew Lemmon Kari Lyon Lloyd Marcum Norma Marcum Nanette Martin 41 Denise Mock Debra Platt Donny Reed April Sheid Delores Stephenson Linda Wagoner Patricia Pratt Debbie Scott Elizabeth Shepherd Melvin Rachor Lynn Wagoner Julie Wallace Leslie Webb Scott Zabransky Not pictured: Calvin Mootry Benjamin Powell STUDY HOURS? The Sadie Hawkins dance, sponsored by the freshman class on Nov. 30, was a great success. On Feb. 9, 1980, the Valentine Cupid was busy at work. The Sweetheart’s dance was put on by the sophomore class in the grade school gym. Decorations were red, white, and complimentary blue. Tables adorned with romantic candlelight were placed around the dance floor. The entertainment for the evening was the KUJ Disco Light Machine which played all our favorite songs. A dance contest was held in which Hector Cano and Jodi Platt were the winners. Lyons Studio was the photographer for the dance. PROM L to R: escort Chuck Austin, Princess Tonya Hoover, escort Monte Ellis, Queen Angie Jenkins, Princess Kim Wallis, escort Jeff Wallis, Princess Laurie Longhorn, escort Damon Horn. The theme for the 1980 junior-senior prom was “We’ve Got Tonight.” Decorations were navy blue, white, and light blue with silver stars, making everything appear as a night on the town. This atmosphere was enhanced by a rippling fountain and pool. The entertainment for the evening was Jade, a rock group from Pendleton. 72 LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF THE CLASS OF 1980 I, Bill Abney, being of bewildered mind and ordinary male body, will the following: to my brother, Frank, my attitude; to Ryan Collinsworth, my ability to stay up most of the night; to Albert Austin, my luck with the ladies (mostly bad); to Larry Phillips, my ability to get into trouble without getting in trouble (he’ll need it!); to Mike Florence, my curly hair; to Vickie McCutchen, my ability to drive down the ditchbank with no lights; my ability to finish a sport I will to any loser who wants it; and my ability to fight with Laurie Ann to anybody who thinks they can handle it. The rest of me, not being worth much, anybody can have. I, Lori Alger, being of sound body and not so sound mind, will my ability to stay out of trouble to Reta Powney and Debbie Collinsworth, my ability to sing low in choir to Donny Rider, and to my sister, April, my ability to keep my mouth shut when it’s supposed to be. But most of all, I will my place on the bench during basketball games to anyone who is willing to take it (and make sure you keep it warm). I, Larry Baros, being of weak body and mind, will my ability to run and catch a football at the same time to Ryan Collinsworth and my 1.0 grade point average to Jim Pratt. I, Lisa Brown, being of strange mind and klutzy body do hereby will the following: my ability to be late to Rose Hunter; my ability to stay a “nice girl” throughout high school to any girl that needs it; to Pat Wade, my personal finance and modern problems papers; to Larry Phillips, my ability to drive crazily without trying. My position as Mr. Hoffman’s seventh period aide goes to the lucky person he chooses. Melvin Britt gets my place in the orthodontists office even though he may not want or need it. To Lupe Castro, I have hopes that he’ll find another girl to watch. Finally, to the future seniors, I will the ability to cope. I, Adila Burchett, being of strange mind and average body, do hereby leave my personal finance papers to any senior who is unfortunate enough to need them and my ability to write senior prophecies to next year’s annual staff. To the newspaper staff I leave my typing ability?? And to Rose Hunter I leave my ability to be late in the mornings and still pass. Last, but not least, my position as Mrs. Madigan’s grade school aide I leave to anyone who wants it. Use it in good health! I, Ronda Crowell, being of what you might call a body and a half-wit mind, will my ability to fake out the teachers and Mr. Hoffman to my little brother, Doug, because he’ll need it. Also, I will my volleyball ability to next year’s volleyball team in hopes that they work hard and take us to state. 73 WILLS CONTINUED. . I, Tonya Hoover, being of sound mind and body, will my locker to Larry P. and Albert Austin that they will fill it fuller than I did, even if they don’t put anything in it but pop bottles. I will my desk in Mr. Kramers’s modern problems class to Michel Ballard in hopes that she will do better in there than I did. I will my ability to go to school on time to Kelly Wallis in hopes someday she will know what the first bell sounds like. I will my typing ability to Twyla J. in hopes someday she’ll do a lot better than I did. I will my ability to sleep in class to all the seniors next year who will be in personal finace. I, Bill Howard, being totally insane, do hereby will the following: this school to anyone who wants to come here, my ability to get out of class and roam the halls to Phil Williams, my ability to skip school to Tom Farler, my corner couch to Bill Davenport or my corner davenport to Bill Couch, and my night school class to Albert A. who will probably need them. I, Mike “Bruno” Hughes, being of destructive mind and underrated body, will Kari Lyon to Ryan Collinsworth, my ability to kick a football to Vic Baros, my ability to stay out of trouble to Chris Cearns, and last but not least, my body to any girl who wants it. I, Angie Jenkins, being of sound mind and body, will the following: that my little sister Kim be able to make it through school and be great in all sports, that Nan Martin be able to go to state in tennis, that Mr. Derbyshire learns to play tennis as well as I do, and that Sharon and Trish remember the great times we had trying to go four-wheeling I, Laurie Longhorn, being of little mind and very little body, will my ability to get away with going to parties and letting all the teachers think I’m an angel to Debbie Collinsworth, my ability to tell dirty jokes and not get embarrassed also goes to her. To all you other underclassmen, “eat your hearts out,” because what little I have left I’m taking with me! I, Janice Lukens, being of no body and very little mind, do hereby will my ability to understand jokes to Jackie Stamate and my modern problems and personal finace to all underclassmen, with the hope that they enjoy the classes as much as I have. I, Theresa Nieland, being of unsound mind and body, do hereby will my “h” to Teresa Cooper in hopes that she learns how to spell the name. And to all the underclassmen, I wish you the best of luck in SHS. I, Elizabeth Pollick, being of soundproof mind and body, do hereby will my height to Jackie S., my position at the grade school to Lee M., and my eyes to Mr. Nelson so he can someday write his book. My inherited personal finance and modern problems papers go to Della C., and my ability to speak without saying “crumb” I give to Teresa C. I, Stevie Joe Pratt, being of absolutely no mind and above average body, will my favorite possession (Rose H.) to Jeff Grogan to keep him company, my pinky finger to Melvin Britt to make up for the one he lost, my ability to grow a mustache to Lee Magoon, and my athletic ability to my good buddy Kevin D. ) '4 ■i 74 SHS I, Michael “J” Schwarz, being of stupid mind and deformed body, leave my slugging ability to “L.M.” (little Mikey) so he can hit walls too. To Ryan Collinsworth I leave all my shop classes with Mr. Ballard and my ability to leave school and never get in trouble. May they use these wisely in their years to come at Stanfield High. I, Tonya Thomas, of sound mind and body, will my ability to play volleyball and basketball to the future SHS volleyball and basketball teams, for I hope someday they will get to go to district and state. To Jodi Sherman I will my ability to throw the javelin and to go to state. I will my ability to play hackey sack to Sheila Moore in hopes that someday she might hit the sack. And I will that the whole track team be able to go to state and win. Finally, I give my ability to never get in trouble to Teresa Cooper.
