the future
We have all had the great fortune to live in a year in which an American has been placed in orbit around the earth for the first time. This has been an historic accomplishment of the utmost importance, comparable in some respects to the voyages of Columbus and Magellan. It has brought to us the realization that the future of mankind will be greatly influenced by explorations into outer space. We can now forsee trips to the moon and dream about excursions to other planets of our solar system and beyond.
Those of us who have been your teachers will participate in the explorations of space only through the small influence we may have had on your preparation. You will be involved in it and your lives will be directly influenced by it. Your share in the future will be limited only to the extent that you limit your preparation, your effort, and your desire to participate.
The future is yours; are you preparing for it?

PROM
umiri
The Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, held on March 31, opened in darkness and closed in a blaze of glory. Electric power all over town went out from 4 until 8:30 that night and the food for the banquet had to be prepared in three different places.
The theme for the dance was "Stairway to the Stars", and the decorations consisted of silver stars against a blue sky. A spiralling stairway disappeared into the sky. The band played before a luxurious shell softly lighted in green.
Pictured above is King John Johnson and his Queen, Sherry Lindsay. Princesses are, left to right: Vicky Forrey, Sophomore; Mary Herrick, Freshman; Jackie Davison, Junior.tytutiwi-SetUvi
