CLASS HISTORY It was in the summer of 1939, that forty-eight little lads and lassies with bright eager faces walked up the gangway to board the ship labeled Stanfield. The first few years of our voyage seemed delightful; but soon we found our depth much deeper with waves of books, rules and exams-along with punishments-dashing us to and fro. The captain and his staff tried to help us weather the storms. Yet the fogs arose to cast a shadow that dimmed our vision. Some of the crew members became sea sick and gave up their efforts. To other life rafts they began to cling. Only four of the original crew remained to the last. The others were gained at different ports, and we welcomed them to our group. Our voyage hasn ' t all been rough sailing. For we have had fun along with our work. Never shall we forget all those happy times! The highlight of our Junior year was the docking at our nation ' s capital. While there our ship was repaired and stocked with fresh supplies. Much of our time was spent in viewing historic places and witnessing our Senate in action. Time sped on. Once more we boarded our ship to sail away-this time on the Sea of Senior- arity. Before us lay greater things to be accomplished. Much of our time was spent in making the third volume of Echoes to which in years to come we could look back and recall pleasant memories of our friendship voyage. In the later days time was well marked for one could see that many things had been over- come, and much good accomplished. Our rules and ways have been polished until they gleam so that others who will follow us might see the way. Tonight we stand on deck awaiting final orders from our captain. On shore are those who eagerly wait to greet us as we take our place in this wonderful mysterious world. Truly each can proudly say that a victory has been won and part of a delightful voyage has ended. Helen Brooks, Historian The Senior Class of Stanfield High, Has done its work without a sigh. We ' ve done our share and passed the test, To make this school the very best. Six lovely girls and six handsome boys, Have brought this class a dozen joys. Grover, to our class did bring, A gift of gab, and most everything. Vernon, we chose as our president, That he does a good job is evident. Lucile with her kindness and sincere ways, Has helped a great deal to brighten our days. B. A. was chosen most likely-to-succeed. And is glad to help in times of need. Mary, the leader of our class, Truly is a darling lass. A very quiet young man is Lee, Who is just as helpful as can be. Bessie is dependable and sweet, And a girl like her just can ' t be beat. Lillian Jane is a girl of charm, Who certainly did our class no harm. Harding, an expert farmer someday, will surely be, Has won many friends with a heart that is carefree. Lois has kept the class cheerful and bright. With a sunny, open heart that is light. F. W. , one of the quiet, dependable boys, Has brought our unique class many joys. That Helen with her natural curls, Will surely be one of the .successful girls. Mrs. Henkel is a dear to us twelve lads and lasses, Never shall we forget those joyous English classes. Oh yes, we ' ve really had our fun, And now that our school days are done; We sadly shall say adieu, And remember our days here with you. Grover Herlocker, Poet
