After decldlng that we started applying our theme to the strains of a melody made up of sequences and notes we llked and those necessary to develop the promrse of our composutlon Then we interposed harmony and brought In varied measures and phrases Our thoughts began to mature as we worked and Opus 59 gaxned substance Basuc chords were augmented counterpornt was In troduced tempos were quuckened or slackened legato measures were followed by staccato our theme became planner every day dally tempos A close basketball game a strmulatung debate a dreamy dance on a star llt nlght term papers career day a suspens ful class play final exams Our mlnds flash back across the scores of memorres As we wrote each part we rehearsed tt carefully sometumes taking the leads other times playing secondfnddle At times we were only background players then sometimes soloists We learned to play to gether In all sux parts of our sulte Flnally our Opus was ready the stage was set for the per formance The long column of green and white slowly marched down the hull crossed the stadnum and walked towards the stands whale the orchestra played Pomp and Cnrcumstance Wnth our diplomas In hand we thought back over the past three years and realnzed that Opus 59 was truly a work whuch deserved recording 7 , .
