Somehow... . there seems to always be an enormous amount of facts and figures to be learned, understood and re- membered, At Stamford, this has seemed to be proven over and over again. There have been many books, many teachers, many tests and an overwhelm- ing amount of assignments, The question, Is it really worth it?, popped frequently in our minds,. The competition and grades may have made us shrug occasionally but we were taught to keep trying hard- er, The answer to the question has become clearer, We have found that anything worth having is also worth the work that goes into obtaining ite Unere 1s a time to learn, a time to care. Somchow .. . during our short stay at high school, we have learned to choose the best, right not wrong, happiness not sadness, peace not war. Most important, we will succeed for we have leamed to love instead of hate. In Stamford, we have worked, talked and laughed with all kinds of people. They were of many races, colors, beliefs and characters, Many became very close friends while others would merely say hello. Who ever they were, we leamed to respect them as people equal to ourselves. Names and faces are forgotten quickly but the good times we've had here won't be, for we can say we made the time to make friends and to share. We have learned that by working together we are able to go farther. Whether we were a football player, a cheerleader or a spectator, our job was important to the outcome of the game. Big Snyder Cigers Crip Hard-Hitting Bulldogs The Stamford Bulldogs made their 1970 grid debut at Snyder against the big Snyder Tigers and when the dust had settled found themselves on the short end of a 28-14 score. The Stamford team showed a great amount of offensive potential with Matt Selmon grinding out 68 yards over the tough Snyder defense. After coming back after the half, Leavitt kept the ball and etited to the Tiger 15. Medford and Selmon then moved the ball to the 1. After an offsides penalty set them back, Selmon ran over for the score, Extra points failed, McKeever got off a good kick that the Tigers returned to only their 10 yard line. Mike Robinson crashed through the offensive line of the Tigers to come up with a fumble at the Snyder 10. Selmon again went over for the TD, Selmon finished his busy night of scoring with the two point try. The Bulldogs of 7-AA played a big tough team and they played well. they just couldn't seem to hang on to the big Snyder Backs. But mms we, mm: BINGO BOLIN - 66 Fullback i pe ere . el AUSTIN BOLIN End All-District KENNETH BULGER Center JIMMY CEARLEY Guard OSCAR CEDILLO Linebacker Bulldogs Drop Chriller CoO Powerful S water The Stamford Bulldogs collided with the Sweetwater Mustangs in their first home game, They found that the big boys are not so untouchable after all as they lost a close, exciting game by a 19-14 count, Randy Leavitt looked very sharp at quarterback as he passed for 68 yards and ran for 48 more, David White showed a good pair of hands at split end. Leavitt passed to Austin Bolin who was alone in the end zone for a 10 yard scoring pass, The attempted extra point kick failed, but the Dogs led 6-0 and Sweetwater had yet to make a first down, Leavitt showed his running ability as he picked up 16 yards to the Mustang 6. Selmon gained 2 yards, then Leavitt kept for the touchdown, Leavitt pitched around the end for a successful 2 extra points try. This gave the Dogs their points for the night. The Bulldogs out-rushed and out-passed the Mustangs statistically as they put on a show of offensive potential for the home crowd. BILLY DENNIS Quarterback Bulldogs Bow to Ballinger Offense A cold front pushed into Stamford cooling off the weather, and it seemed to have cooled of the Bulldogs also. At times the Bulldogs defense played well. Oscar Cedillo, John Newsom, and Bobby Prichard played well offensively and defensively. The Bulldogs just did not seem to be able to settle down and play to their full ability and the result was a 15-0 loss to a capable and aggressive Ballinger squad, ROBERT GILLESPIE Guard All-District BRAD GLENN - JERRY GOODMAN : 68 Fullback Tackle Cigers Outscore Dogs In Offensive Play The Stamford Bulldogs and Jacksboro Tigers collided in Dog Stadium in what is becoming a good old rivalry. The bulldogs scrapped, fought, and played the strong team, but finally fell by a 27-14 score, Marsh sparked up the offense as he ran for 4, and then 12 yards to lead the drive to the Tiger 9, Leavitt then kept around the right end for a 9 yard TD, The try for two points failed, Austin Bolin led Stamford receivers with 56 yards on three catches, including a 10 yard touchdown pass ; The Dogs have met the Tigers the last three years in a row and, although losing all three games, have given the tigers a tough time of it, BURL HENSON End mie) | ee ee RANDY LEAVITT Center Quarterback Bulldogs Play Hawks A Respectable | Game | The Stamford Bulldogs travelled to lowa Park to-play the tough number one ranked Hawks. The Dogs wound up in a wild offensive display to be outdone by the Hawks 66-22 Leavitt passed for 156 yards and ran for 66, Ira Marsh also added to the Dogs ground total with 30 yards, and Brad Glenn completed Stamford rushes with 16. David White caught a 24 yarder for a TD. Marsh ran for the 2 extra points, Tight end Aus- tin Bolin led Stamford receivers with 4 catches for 58 yards and a TD, Marsh again ran for the 5 2 extra points, LEWIS LYCKMAN Guard Halfback Leavitt kept for a 5 yard gainer to the Hawk 4, Marsh ran over for the TD, and the try for 2 extra points failed, The Bulldogs indeed played the Hawks a re- spectable game. ge somal RICKY MEDFORD .: Fullback Bulldogs Knotted By Stingy Ciger Defense The Stamford Bulldogs opened their district 7AA race on a disap- pointing note, being held to a 0-0 tie by the tougher than expected Anson Tigers, The game was played in a steady rain from kick- off to the end and the muddy con- ditions kep the swift Dog runners from getting untracked and elimi- nated the formerly effective pass- ing game, Fullback Matt Selmon led the game in the slippery turf. Randy Leavitt and Ira Marsh each ran for 45 yards to completely out-gain the Tiger offense. Mike Robinson, Austin Bolin, Bobby Prichard, and Robert Gillespie played fine de- fensive games. Oscar Cedillo, Bingo Bolin, and Bo Jones, all sophomores, also turned in find per- formances, The Bulldogs dominated the statistics but were held scoreless in a bitterly disappointing game. Guard All-District ALAN PLUMLEE End Tackle Bulldogs Fall Co Merkel The Stamford Bulldogs lost their second District 7AA game 28-14 at Merkel against the alert Badgers in a Saturday night con- test. Mike Robinson went over from his line- backing spot to pick off a pass and run 20 yards for touchdowns. Marsh, Selmon, Young, and Leavitt, shared running duties as the Dogs drove to two first downs to the Badger 39. Andy Young there broke loose on a fine 39 yard run for the Bulldogs last Touchdown, Ira Marsh fought his way over as the run for extra points was good. ed as Ks ll a ae E + Ps f apes. ni ae ‘Pe ee é 2 aaah eG BOBBY PRICHARD MIKE ROBINSON Tackle Tackle All-District MATT SELMON . Halfback All-District CLASSIE SIMS Tackle TERRY STREMMEL End Bulldogs Amazed by Rotan The Stamford Bulldogs were defeated 20-0 at the hands of a flashy Rotan squad a District 7-AA game, The hard-hitting Dog defense stopped two Rotan drives by knocking penalties loose and recovering them, but the effi- ciency of the wishbone offense of the Ham- mers produced three touchdowns. Matt Selmon had a good game for the Bulldogs as he gained 89 yards against the stout Rotan defense. Mike Robinson played well on defense and was all over the field making tackles and hitting people. Sev- eral Stamford sophomores saw action and turned in promising performances. The Bulldogs played good football, but a combination of the good Rotan backs, penalties, and getting no breaks finally led to the Stamford defeat, 74 ROBERT STEVENSON Split End Bulldogs Wallop Pipers The Stamford Bulldogs finally got their offense and defense working together to overcome the Hamlin Pied Pipers in Dog Stadium in a 7-AA game by 32-14, The Pipers played good football, but lost to the clicking Bulldog offense which marked up 294 rushing and 136 yards passing. Quarterback Randy Leavitt played a fine game as he rushed for 83, passed for 136, and threw 2 TD passes, Matt Selmon was on the receiving end of both scoring passes and rushed for two TD's as well. Selmon's rushing yardage was a fine total of 118, Looking to the future for the Bulldogs, sophomore Bingo Bolin had a fine game rushing for 51 yards, including a 24 yard touchdown, Selmon gained 16 yards in two tries, then took a pass from Leavitt 48 yards for a Dog TD. The TD was made possible by fine blocks from David White and Robert Stevenson, Selmon also ran for 53 yards to add another TD, Ira Marsh ran for the two extra points, The victory gave the Bulldogs their first win of the season, while the Pipers had yet to win a game, ‘ Safety a Bulldogs Scare Haskell The Stamford Bulldogs wrapped up their 1970 grid campaign with an exciting contest with the Haskell Indians in Indian Stadium’ but were finally overcome by a close score of 23-14, The entire Stamford defensive unit deserves a great deal of praise for their efforts as they contained the powerful Indian offense very well the last three quarters, Bobby Prichard often led the defensive line, The Dogs were down early in the game 20-0 and it would have been a con- venient time to quit, but the Dogs went to work and drove 77 yards in 12 plays for a TD. Marsh and Leavitt ran for yardage, but it was Stevenson who clicked through the Indian defense to take a Leavitt pass for a 10 yard TD, A try for two failed and the Dogs trailed 20-6, The Dogs were point-hungry and Selmon zipped 10 yards for their second touchdown. Selmon ran for two points and the Dogs trailed by only 20-14 and the Indians began to sweat as they saw their lead shrink, The Bulldogs performed against the Indians much better than many people expected and gave the play-off bound Warriors a thorough scare before the even- ing was finished, Pye DA Safety VID W Although it was a season filled with disappoint- ment, we can always remember that never once did spirit lack among our team.
