STAMFORD REPEATS STATE AA GRID TITLE Under the guidance of one of the finest high school coaching staffs in the U. S., the magnificent Stamford Bulldogs lived up to pre-season hopes as they out-fought a mighty Brady eleven 26-13 for their second State crown - truly a great achieve- ment! Best of all, harmony and teamwork reigned as the Blue and White obtained the prized crown again. The 1956 State Champions opened the season against the Quanah Indians and notched their 18th consecutive win 46- 12, Next to fall was a scrappy Ballinger Bearcat crew, 53-6. In a return bout from last year, the Bulldogs out-fought a never-say-die Andrews for a 26-13 victory. In the closest game of the year, the Bulldogs tenaciously maintained their winning skein with a 7-6 win over a powerful AAA foe, Sweetwater. Coleman became victim number 22 by grace of a 40-6 shellacking by the Blue and White. A terrific game with the Brownwood Lions T RI-CAFTA INS Without the fine leadership of three of the most out- standing tri-captains in Texas, the Stamford Bulldogs might never have realized such a victorious season. Dallas Chris- tian got honorable mention 'on the All-State team, while Mike McClellan and Dale Robinson landed a place on the first team. gave Stamford fans a thrill as the mighty Bulldogs smashed their way to a 19-7 decision. An old rival, Anson, fell before the steam-rolling Stamford lads 40-0 for district victory number one. I.n a non- district conference tilt with Nocona, Coach Wood's reserves saw much action as they romped over and through the lightweight Indians for a 60- 12 win. The Hamlin Pied Pipers toppled before a hungry Stamford crew 26-6, as reserves again saw mud action. In the district showdown ,newcomer Seymour was bombed 47-0 for the Blue and White's 27th con- secutive victory and their fourth district crown in the past six years. First to fall in the Bulldogs' playoff path to glory were the Perryton Rangers 27-0 on a cold day in Childress. Pitted against a tremendous line, Coach Wood's stalwart charges not only met the challenge, but also came out as one of the finest lines in the state. Returning to Childress the following week, TRAINER Sterling Carmon, the outstanding trainer for the Stamford Bulldogs, was everywhere at once doing his part in making a State Championship team !
