The primary and intermediate grades were then transferred to these buildings. After the fire which destroyed the administration build- ing of the Stamford College, the college ground was used for the erect- ion of a high school building. In May of 1922, construction was started. The building, built at a cost of S86,000, was occupied on February 5,l923.

1-gm In December 1900, the first public school in Stamford was opened. It consisted of four rooms and had three teachers. By the third year, 500 pupils were enrolled and ten teachers were employed. The rapid growth of the school brought about the need for a larger build- ing. In 1908, a new brick building, consisting of ten rooms and a large auditorium, was completed. On July 7, l9Z8, 565,000 in bonds were voted for the construction of a Manual Trainin 8 Shop, a Home Economics Cottage, land the Reynolds Elementary School. Overcrowded conditions necessitated expansion again in 1939. The Oliver Elementary School, the wing ' 5' A 3 additions to the main building, one for Junior High, the other for high school use, were built at an expense of s9o,ooo, During the past three years, numerous additions have been niade.
