“
1978 Voice You’ve got your reasons Like the seasons they change Talking of pleasure While enjoying the pain And though it keeps you in the light And all the words are said just right There’s still a cry in the night So we climb every mountain Through the snow-covered hills Taken for granted You can get all your fill And if I seem to look away And turn the pages of the play There are these things I have to say I’m a springtime boy and I look for the joy Of a world in bloom could it come never too soon And while the world is turning and the sun is burning Do you think in my yearning that the journey is through I can’t leave it up to you And though it keeps you in the light And all the words are said just right There’s still a cry in the night — POCO — A LMA MA TER Although Delhi’s always favored, the Delaware waters blue. And the boys and girls of Hobart. To the valleys they are true. We will own the mountain’s splendor, and in glory they’ll delight. While Stamford stands defender of the Purple and the White. Through the four long years of high school midst the scenes we see revolve, 1 And the problems in our studies, we daily seek to solve. Or we win in athletic victories, on the baseball field so bright. Still we work for dear old Stamford, the Purple and the White. As the cares of life o’ertake us, wearing fast our lives away. Should our dearest hopes betray us, and opponents hold the sway. Still we’ll banish care and sadness, and our hearts with joy grow light. Thinking of those days of gladness ’neath the Purple and the White. 2 SENIORS You’ve Got Your Reasons ■i Senior Directory James Adair — Band — 1, 2, 3,4; Soccer — 1, 2, 3, 4; J.V. For me, Stamford was the town where I .learned how to know people a way you l an’t do in a big city. Actually 1 think you Jean have as much fun in Stamford as in a big city, at least I had. It was interesting to see your school system which is different from Sweden. There you have got the same schedule and you have got a lot more action during and after school with all sports and school work. Thanks to everybody who showed American friendship and kindness which made my stay here a lot easier. I hope to come back one day and see you all again and who knows, maybe at Tony's. And if you come to Sweden some time, and you don't know what to do. give me a call. Ta’t Lugnt Flenrick 17 James Adair Joanne Adair Mike Binkley “A friend is one to whom one may pour out all the contents of one’s heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that the gentlest of hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away. ” — A rabian Proverb Susan Bligh Secretary Barbara Bower 19 20 Debra Goss David Graves Treasurer ‘7 am not interested so much in what I do with my hands or words as what I do with my feelings. I want to live from the inside out, not from the outside in. ” — Hugh Prather Glenda Guest Samuel Hardman Vice-President 22 “All you have to do is touch my hand to show me you understand and something happens to me that's some kind of wonderful ” — Carole King Joy Mintler Wayne Loucks 25 26 Henrick Rehn “Whenyou’re sad — I cry. When you’re hurt — I bleed. I feel your pain and I know your thoughts. So when all else crumbles to the ground I will stand as your support. ” — Nancy Hoffman Teri Weigl Holly Sutton Geoffrey Wilkie 28 Class Favorites Most Talkative Danny and Susan Class Flirts Jim and Debbie Dan and Stacey Most Likely to Succeed Elaine and Sam Done Most for School Most Absentminded Harry and Debbie Most Musical Bob and Mary Best Dressed Nelson and Debbie Class Clowns Susan and Danny 30 Elaine and Mike Most Courteous Most Friendly Maureen and Jim Pet and Pest Debbie and Sam Most A thletic Ann and Harry 32 Dedication The class of 1978 are proud to dedicate this year’s VOICE to Frederick J. Doyle. Mr. Doyle was born in Oneonta. New York, in 1968. he obtained his Bachelor's degree from Hartwick College. He taught at Bradford Central School. Bradford. New York and at Worcester Central School. In June of 1970 Mr. Doyle left Worcester to join the Peace Corps: his term ended in October of 1972. In 1973. Mr. Doyle joined our school and has been very active since then. The Photography club in our school was set up by Mr. Doyle. He has also played an important role in obtaining grants for calculators used by the science and math departments in our school. He has also assisted our music programs by taping concerts put on by the students. Many of us feel that Mr. Doyle is not just a teacher but a person who we respect and admire. It is with great pride and appreciation that we dedicate our yearbook to Frederick J. Doyle. 33 Class Summary In the past four years, we. the class of 1978. have had many new experiences and have learned a lot from them. As the most important years of our lives are drawing to a close, we will look back at these times with fondest memories. Of our many activities, our biggest and the one of which we were the most proud was our Jr. Prom. After planning for months, and stepping on people’s toes, we finally got everything to fit together. And when our night” arrived, the results of our hard work were displayed. In our four years of high school there have been many people who have helped us. There are two people, however, to whom we would like to pay special tribute. We thank Andy Pettingell. co-advisor of our Prom for the valuable time and the help she gave us. The other person that we owe so much to is Dan Bellotti. He has been our class advisor for the past four years. He helped us with our fund-raising campaigns as well as with our Prom. Through all the problems that we have endured, we appreciated Mr. Bellotti’s guidance and support. His openness and helpfulness spanned the distance between being a teacher and being a friend. He cared about our projects and schoolwork: he cared about us as individuals — young adults who needed guidance and trust. As we learned, changed and grew, we began to form new 34 ideas. The teachers we once thought of as tyrannists became people to us — their thoughtfulness and dedication in our everyday experiences will long he remembered. So many good times, sad times, losses and so many, many gains are now held deep within our hearts. The members of our class owe everyone so much, and all we can offer is our sincerest thanks. In debate. 22 people would argue either affirmative or negative on the year’s proposed topic. This year’s topic was National Health Care. On speech there are two subdivisions that concern the club. The first is Original Oratory. Under this, you give a ten-minute speech on a current interest. There must be sound background to make it more appealing to the judges. The second is Dramatic Interpretation. The person here takes a selection from a book, involving at least two characters, and acts it out using only his voice. Debate and speech help you to clearly express yourself in front of an audience. It also helps to improve your ability to reason and listen. 94 Future Homemakers of America FRONT: D. Merwin. T. Weigl.
