mm cz f[ma A {atEr Although Delhi’s always favored, The Delaware waters blue, And the boys and girls of Hobart, To the valleys they are true, We will own the mountain's splendor, And in glory they'll delight. While Stamford stands defender Of the Purple and the White. Through the four long years of high school Midst the scenes we see revolve, And the problems in our studies, We daily seek to solve, Or we win in athletic victories, On the baseball field so bright. Still we work for dear old Stamford, And the Purple and the White. As the cares of life o’ertake us. Wearing fast our lives away. Should our dearest hopes betray us, And opponents hold the sway, Still we'll banish care and sadness, And our hearts with joy grow light, Thinking of those days of gladness 'Neath the Purple and the White. 2 SENIORS What is the value of solitude? — of peace, of light, of silence? Miss Chambers grew up in Davenport and attended Charlotte Valley Central School. She later received degrees from Hiram College at Hiram, Ohio: Oneonta State College at Oneonta, New York; and Alfred University at Alfred, New York. She is now the an teacher for Stamford. Miss Chambers has been the advisor to our class for the past two years. She has always been willing to offer her suppon to our activities. She has given us personal guidance and her readiness to help has never failed. During the prom preparations, her knowledge of art gave us an extra tool toward its success. To many of us, she has gone beyond just a teacher and has become a friend. It is with deep appreciation and pleasure that we dedicate the 1977 VOICE to Miss Rita Chambers. 30 to [ove fife tfirougfi Haljouz i± to Ijs intimate uritfi Hife ± inmo±t secret. 31 Ouch! I missed. Where there is hatred - let me show love; Where there is injury - pardon; Where there is doubt - faith; Where there is despair - hope; Where there is darkness - light; Where there is sadness - joy; 0 Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled - as to console: To be understood - as to understand; To be loved - as to love; for It is in giving - that we receive; It is in pardoning - that we are pardoned; It is in dying - that we are bom to Eternal Life. Nancy Fleischmann always said that one of the things she would like to have been was a mechanic. Horses, ice- skating, skiing, and a few boys were her main interests. Having fun with her friends brought happiness to all. Her friends will always remember the days that we had enjoyed, some happy and some sad. But in the end we are all sad. The memories of the happiness she brought to us will always remain throughout our hearts and minds. 48 Andrea exemplified the beautiful little girl everyone loved. She was fair, kind, considerate; she loved fun, enjoyed pranks, and had her mischievous moments. Her pleasures were found in others' smiles, in the simple gifts of friendship. She loved and was loved. Whatever the task, her goal was to perform to the peak of ability. She took life seriously, never failing to enjoy all of God’s gifts. Life was a serious matter and Andrea worked diligently to remain. She worked so hard to keep what so many flippantly throw away - life. One of her little friends remarked that God needed a special angel to help him; and Andi was the best. A favorite quotation of unknown origin is To live in the hearts of others is never to die. Our Andi will never die. c ndxsa. ffacodi ecuzf Education A quiet person, maybe more separate than most, Doreen was a deep and giving person. She lived a life which often caused others to judge her, and usually she was misjudged. Doreen was open, loving, and her dedication to those close to her was surpassed only by her faith in God. She showed her deep belief in the songs she wrote. She was slow to anger, quick to forgive and always ready to reach out to others. Her goal in life was to achieve the best she could for herself and her son. Despite her unacceptance and her reputation, she never complained and she gave fully of herself. Doreen is now living in the Grace and world she always believed was hers. Till rising and gliding out, I wandered off by myself, in the mystical moist night air, and from time to time looked up in perfect silence to the stars. !2 oz££n zf £l?£cca. f1959Mr976j tdHais. of 7979 49 ddznLOZ cdfcgfi SfizcLatEducation ROW 1: B. Notary Zxc uyt StuJtnt Dear Friends: I wish I could express what is in my heart and mind, but I cannot find the appropriate words, so please forgive me. 1 will only tell you this: The world in a few years, will be in our hands. It is up to us whether we make it better or worse. Therefore, I hope that my visit here has not only been a wonderful and joyous experience for me, but has also served the purpose of sharing with all of you a bit of my country - different in language, heritage. and ways of living. Deep in our hearts, we basically have the same lives. I want to believe that I have brought with me the love of my countrymen, and a message to share with all of you our hopes, our ideals, and our desires for better living conditions, so that all Americans, joining hands, will build together a better world, for you, for me, and for everybody. I take this opportunity to offer to all of you my town and my home, so that you can all come to visit me. I also want to thank you for the generosity and friendship which you have given me, and to my host parents for their kindness, patience, and understanding. Thank you to the Rotary Club for their program and for choosing me as an exchange student. I have tried to do my best; please forgive my faults. Thank you to the school, where I have learned more than I ever dreamed. Thank you to my classmates for their love and for not showing impatience with my language. Thanks to all my friends, and to the people of Stamford in general, for their kindness shall remain always in my heart. I wish 1 could stay here among all of you, but I must go back to my country; yet I have a part of my heart here. 1 hope that one day we will meet again. 74 ADMINISTRATION Tenderly now let all men turn to the earth Nancy Newhall R.
