Kenneth Anderson, Jeanne L,aBel1e, Secreta ry, The National Association of High School Principal organized the National 1-lonor Society in 1921 with the end in view of stimulating scholarship and worthy personality development. Today there are over 2,700 chapters in the best high schools in the country. The LaFayette McQuown chapter of the National Honor Society was organized in 1935. Students who scholastically rank in the upper third of their class are automatically candidates for membership. Fifteen percent of each Senior class may be eventually elected from those candidates who rank highest in character, leadership, and service in hiph school activities. The objectives of this society are: 1. To encourage scholarship. Z. To stimulate a desire to serve. 3. To create worthy character. 4. To develop constructive leadership. Student Council The Purpose When a Student Council is first founded, it is usually done in order to acquire a closer and better relationship between the students at large and the faculty. As a result it acts as a loudspeaker, through which opinions can be exchanged on how to make a school a better place. There are limitations to the amount of power a council can have. In our school we do not assume the authority of making rules and regulations on disciplinary measures for ex- perience has taught that an organization of this kind is not successful. To many the Student Council is a group that puts on various activities during the year. However, this is only a minor purpose. Also it is often recognized as a body which represent the school, since there are members from each home room in it.
