fl Superintendent of Schools Mr Earl M Witt ADMINISTRATION assume' E 2'-2 AFTER 75 YEARS Seventy five years ago November 28 1881 Stafford High School opened its doors for the first time It was then called a school of higher grade and was actually a one room one teacher school held rn Borough Hall known today as the Fire House on River Road Eighteen students registered and since they came with various steps of preparation from the different districts of the town it must haxe been very much like an ungraded one room school Despite its humble beginnings its sponsors dreamed that someday it would grow into a school that would offer advantages equal to neighboring communitles which had well established academies On April 14 1884 a new building facing High Street opened its doors as the first Stafford High School Building This frame structure with two later additions was to serve Stafford for the next 55 years In 1939 the present building rn Hyde Park was occu The sponsors dream was not in vain Some 1700 young people have completed their course and been granted dip lomas and hundreds of others have profited by their studies in the school The Community can be proud of its school and look forward with pleasure to its increasing servlce to mankind in the years ahead SEVENTY FIFTH ANNIVERSARY LOOKING FORWARD Anniversaries such as this one suggest the poet s thought that Each age is an age that is dy1ng And one that is coming to birth We salute the past and look forward to the future During the next twenty five years in which our school will com plete its first century of service how will it grow? In what ways will it better serve not only youth but all the people of Stafford? We cannot see beyond the present but the gradual improvement of our offerings through the years betokens future gains We may reasonably expect curriculum enrich ment to include the introduction of art the expansion of our music shop health home economics and driver edu cation programs If we follow the national trend there will be marked growth in adult education as an extension of the high school program Partnershxp between school and com munity as expressed by parent teacher type organizations will probably attend and promote all other changes All credit to the past, the best is yet to be QU-'nun-.1 Q.
