Forezgn Lamgzzagey Open Wizadowf The Foreign Language Department offered many different alternatives. Students had a choice between SEanish. French, German, Russian and Chinese. Rudiments of the lan- guage were not the only things taught. Cul- tural aspects with native speakers and their country were also explored. The com- bination of these two elements helped stu- dents achieve the well-rounded knowledge necessary to truly understand other peoples. The best philosophy on learning a Foreign Language was best expressed by department head, Senor juan Remos. who said. To learn a foreign language is like opening a window facing a new world.

Students Score - HZlg7fJ6V Knowledge of math is important in todayls so- ciety. In order to meet this need, the Math- ematics Department has been testing new stu- dents in order to find those with a deficiency. Mr. jarmon, Department Head, stated that the sophomore test scores were considerably higher than those of previous years. Forty-nine percent ofthe new students passed compared to thirty- three percent last year, He added that the test' ing conditions had also improved. The math teachers hoped to maintain the continued rise in test scores by emphasizing basic skills in mathematics. There were a variety of math classes with Geometry and Algebra as the basics, and Trigonometry and Calculus for more math- ematical minded students. LOXVER RIGHT: Mr. George Quigley-Basic Math.
