Students Seek Solutions To THE HISTORY DEPARTMENT offers a wide range of knowledge to Stadium students. Through history, students are able to observe possible solu- tions to many of the world's problems, and also iind solutions of their own. In Civics they learn about our own United States governmentg in World Problems they learn and study the problems confronting the World, in United States History they learn the foundations upon which our nation was establishedg and in World History they study the history of Europe, and of the earliest civilizations. There has been a notable change in the World History course this year. In years past, this course was taught in a single year, but this year the His- tory department experimented with a new idea. The course has been extended over two years, thus dividing the program. The individual sections are: Ancient History, Medieval History, Modern History, and Far East History. MR. DAVID L. Administrations 9 MR. RICHARD LEWIS English, Tennis Coach, Univer- sity of Puget Sound, B.A., B.Ed. THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT is probably the main concern for all college bound students. It is in the English classes that students learn to com- pose, write, and appreciate good literature. Com- munication is a very important factor in our very complex world, and a person must be able to write or speak in the correct way so that others will have a full understanding of what he is saying. Studying the writings of certain great people in literature such as Shakespeare, Thoreau, and T. S. Eliot. students learn to develop a style of their own. At Stadium there are many high achievement English classes, and capable students are urged to attend them. In Mr. Arpke's Advanced Place- ment class, exceptional students are further pre- pared for college. The knowledge that is gained in these English classes will be of unending value to Stadium students, no matter what their future plans may be. MR. J.
