A Goad Priest . . . a Great Man More than anyone can say, al- most more than anyone can feel, the body and soul of Saint Xavier High School misses Fr. Vaughan. His passing left a gap so wide and so deep in the school, in our hearts: and in the very essence of the thing that is St. Xavier High School, that no one can ever begin to fill it, In the few fleeting years that he was here, this man did more for us than many could have done in a lifetime. He was the man in the background, the driv- ing force that kept St. Xavier alive. Fr. Vaughan sweated and toiled for us, not thinking of himself but of the school, its students, and all that it stood for. It was largely through his efforts that this year we could keep echoing the chant, llWelre NoV 13! St. Xavier has lost a devoted and dedicated founder, The Jesuits have lost a just and loving fathelx And yet what he has done and he himself will remain a part of X forever. When he could take time from his work, Fr. Vaughan often stopped to talk to the students. Running the Jesuit community and the high school kept Fri Vaughan busy. Students pay last re5pects t0 deceased President. Fr. Vaughan addresses senior graduates. 25
