Foreword There is a famous anecdote that has long become a valuable heirloom in Jesuit tradition. It catches two very close friends that are saints, speaking to each other at a very significant moment in the history of the Church. St. Francis Xavier, about to embark on his colossal project of Christian- izing the East, received from the lips of his Jesuit superior, St. Ignatius of Loyola, the momentous commission, Go, set the World on firef' Each June at St. Xavier High School, the seniors receive this same inspiring commission. Their diploma admits them to the company of St. Fran- cis himself and of all the outstanding alumni in the school's history-all of whom are zealously devoted to the same tremendous work of inflam- ing the world with Christ. They are Christophers, Christ-bearers, penetrating their respective walks of life with Christ's message of love and hope. This momentous task of the St. Francis Xavier alumni we have made the theme ofthis 1958 Year- book.
